ICANN have a blog moderated (authored) by Kieren McCarthy. One of the latest entries is a summation of where ICANN are regarding the new gTLD's that have attracted such a firestorm.

I have posted comments, both constructive & critical, in my ongoing effort to dialogue with ICANN. Many of my comments pertain to ICANN's "process".

I think some of the domainers here will be interested in this flow of discussion on the blog. Here's the link if interested in adding your comments (comments located at bottom of the ICANN post) ...

So where are we up to with these new Internet extensions?

Thanks for sharing Carlton.

I'm very interested to see what exactly they can do for trademark protection -- with things the way they are at present, I would imagine, as the author quotes others as saying, that we'll see UDRPs grow in number very quickly. I take it you're M. Menius? Those were great comments :)

Thanks Reece for visiting the ICANN blog. It seems to be a place where real conversations can take place. To have an opportunity to speak candidly with ICANN staffers is not something I take for granted.

Engaging ICANN in discussion is critically important. Future policy is steered in part through these dialogues. And ICANN accountability increased. Sound arguments do get their attention, and create a documented history of ICANN's evolving direction.

I agree. which is why I was shocked to see Kieren McCarthy respond to my blog post on this issue just hours after I posted it. I haven't even officially launched my blog yet as it's still under construction but since ICANN and Keiren seem willing to talk to the public about this issue I thought I should share: NameTalent.com » Blog Archive » ICANN and the New gTLD’s

[edit] Carlton, btw this thread inspired my first blog post topic, thanks (repped)

Thank you Carlton :kickass:

Doesn't seem like the average domainer is thinking much of this proposed change. However, if there are 500 new extensions created in the next two years (as predicted by Kieren in the ICANN blog), that will change the landscape of the internet considerably and possibly wreck the ccTLD system which is functioning fine already. :imho:

Here is a link to ICANN's official page for the gTLD Program: ICANN | New gTLD Program
