Stupid Statuses - Stupid Idea?

Hi everyone,

My friends came up with this idea to collect and vote on the world's stupidest facebook status updates. I developed the site, and now I'm wondering what the community at NamePros thinks about it.

I will be the first to admit it sounded better in concept, but maybe it will get better with more content... Please check it out and let me know what you think.

What you need is a couple of good examples and some facebook groups!

The idea is great but You can add stupid facebook groups too. for those who create such useless group. and anything that can relate to facebook users being stupid. which you can gain more visitors. more visitors=profit.

Just think of ideas how you could upgrade the website.

If the idea is unique it doesn't mean it is stupid - it only means it's original.

I love the idea. I'm not fond of the template though. It just seems bland and generic. I would get a custom job and a nice logo. Market it on facebook. You could also add or do a separate site for twitter updates. Some one those can be very unusual. I would have more on the page.

Have you considered having it designed like a Plime.com or something like that where people can register and earn points for postings and voting? I'm just not sure Wordpress is the way to go.

Great Idea
99% of the crap on facebook is stupid so no shortage of content.
And twitter is just as bad.

And don't get me started on MyEmptySpaceBetweenMyEars.com

I think its a novel idea. The layout needs to be spruced up a bit. I think a bit more colour would work great. I'd probably aim for a minimalist kind of layout.

I haven't used Wordpress myself, but I'm sure there'd be a plugin that automatically posted each status to your facebook/twitter/myspace. I think that would be a great way to promote your site because people will become friends with you to see the funny statuses that you post.

If you can't find a plugin, I used the php class at Auto Tweets Twitt Generator to autopost status updates to twitter for one of my sites. You might be able to incorporate that into wordpress (again, I haven't used word press so I'm not sure how easy or hard that would be).

I think this site could really work well for you. It will take time to make it a success, but i think it will really be worth it for you because it should be reasonably easy to maintain (maybe half an hour a day),but it would still be constantly updated.

Haha yes there is no shortage of content for this site.

I have followed your advice and created a facebook account and promoted it and connected it to the wordpress site. I will soon hook it up to a twitter account as well.

I also liked the idea of allowing user registrations. I took that one step further by allowing users to login using their facebook accounts, so they don't even need to register anymore. Earning points for posting is a cool idea, something I will definitely consider.
