Last week I heard about domain names being sold for huge amounts of money. I thought, why don't I get involved? So, I looked around me to see what businesses were booming and I decided to buy two domains related to a stadium in my area. Well, the stadium is owned by a big bank, and I was excited and stupid enough to buy domains containing the bank's name! Obviously TM infringement. But it didn't occur to me that this would be an issue until I came across NamePros. Obviously, I will never use the site, nor will I try to sell it. I just want it to go away quietly. Do I contact the bank and offer them the names for free, or just keep quiet and sit it out for a year until they expire? So far I have not been contacted by the bank. Stupid, stupid stupid!

you could just let them expire or delete them
anyway, if the bank contacts you, just tell them you'll let expire
as far as I know, if you do not do anything on it, it's fine.
but that depends

When I started, I regged several demains like this:

"name of famous actress" + nude.com

After learning about common law trademarks on namepros, I cancelled the domains to minimize the chance of getting contacted by anyone.

Host fixed problem

Thanks for your advice,
I contacted my Host and they were able to release the domains (and refund my registration fee as well!). Whew! That's a relief, I will be more careful now to only buy generic names.

Glad to hear they refunded your money! Any harm in telling us the name of the host? We get a lot of "go#% $%# %#% my host!" sort of posts; it would be nice to know one that has seemingly "done right" by their customer.

followup response to posts

Thanks for the support,
The name of the host is Bluehost (bluehost.com). They have been great! I have been using them for a couple of years now. I like them much more than my old host (OLM).
