im in an auction for a name at pool

there is 24 hours ish to go and two bidders so far, is it typical for ebay-esque last minute bidding, what is the best strategy for winning this auction

the name isnt massively valuable

any advice on auction would be appreciated

Not sure about Pool's procedures, but I believe at SN, if you bid in the last 5 minutes, the auction is extended for another 5 minutes. Nonetheless, the best idea is to wait until the last minute to bid higher. This gives the least amount of notice to the other parties. If they really want the name, they will also be watching the auction, but many people forget to or will not watch the closing minutes.

so 6 minutes before is the best time then

the ending time isnt ideal for a us bidder but is for a uk bidder so i hope this gives me the edge and no-one will be there in the final minutes

You can wait for 2 seconds left if you want. I know at snapnames, the auction is extended for another 5 minutes if there is a bid in the last five minutes. So, your best bet would be to toss in a bid right at 5 minutes and one second left and no extra time would be added.

thanks for the advice fonzie, i won the auction in the end and only for $81, no-one was about at the end of the auction to bid against me

i think i got a bit of a bargain as when i had tried to backorder it at namewinner it said minimum bid was $230 so i assume someone else had bid that amount there

anywyas does anyone know how long it takes for me to have control of the domain as i havent heard anything from pool and its been nearly 2 hours since the auction
