Strategies for finding Typo Traffic domains

Hi!

Share your strategies for finding Typo Traffic domains. I mean the unregistered ones only.

The one i know:

1. Watch out for Alexa's Movers and Shakers list. Find available TM free typos and test them for traffic. If the domain is kind of generic/dictionary term the better.

List yours... :D

Go for the non .com domains, especially ctlds (like .be, .de, .cz, .ro etc). By the mass and free .com domain tasting it is getting less and less likely to find typos with decent traffic and revenue, on the other hand it is not so hard to find ctlds with traffic. My main concern is though that it takes too much time, and the income is not so nice, so i gave up, they still make low xxx$ per month which is ok, but i make many times more on easily developable minisites. Also, you can find typos with ovt+ext in some extensons, here is a list that i have not regged as an example:

bankoftaiwan.com.tw โ€“ OVT-32
capitol.com.tw โ€“ Stocks OVT-39
carrefor.com.tw โ€“ OVT-22
youttube.com.tw
toyta.com.tw
fistbank.com.tw
hsbs.com.tw
tawanlottery.com.tw
maybank.com.tw โ€“ OVT-5
myban.com.tw โ€“ OVT-8
nashanlife.com.tw โ€“ OVT-10

These all have ovt+ext just check it with the Taiwanese ovt tool, and be careful, some TM typos.. Good luck.

I have a huge thread on it in the n00b section here: http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/194337-typo-advice-to-typo-newbies.html. Main thing I've figured out is that misspellings can and often do perform better than typos. I had about a dozen typos of UltimateBet.tv when they were advertising on TV, and you'd laugh at all the ways to spell ultimate:

ultimit
ultimite
ultamit
*ultamite
ultemit
ultemite
ultimet
ultimete
*ultimat
ultemet
ultemete
ultemate
ultamet
ultamete
ultamate

(note the starred ones are actually typos too, ultamite being a transposition of vowels, and ultimat being a missing letter...misspelling + typo is usually the best to go after)

Not that ALL of them got wonderful traffic...some obviously did better than others, but all the ones I got more than paid their reg fees - not bad for $30 .tvs.

Another good typo I've gotten I got after I saw a big sale. I forget the price at the time, but Mannequins.com sold for a nice amount on Sedo, and when it happened, I saw opportunity. I mean cmon, mannequin? Typo/misspelling heaven! I actually only got 2 because a lot were taken, but both the ones I got were misspellings, and one of them has done really well for me, mannaquins.com. It almost looks better and more natural than mannequins, and sometimes that's how misspellings can be.

Note of caution: even on a generic term, a domain owner can get a wordmark if the site is developed, which may allow them to go after typos. Sure, the risk is less than with branded TMs, but it still exists.

My best typos were the right spellings of misspelt domains. There's this night-club "TruBrighton" here in brighton, and they've advertised trubrighton.com. I regged truebrighton.com & its doing....
