Hello there,

I've been struggling with this little thing.

I assume that special characters are not allowed in domain names.

However, I tried to search for availabilities with the character "ƒ" within the name (for example ƒirst.com) on godaddy.com, domainname.com, namecheap.com, etc and there is apparently no problem, it says that the domain name is available.

On OVH, for the same name, it says the character is not accepted.

I suppose this is a mistake from those websites but I'd just like to know what you guys think.

Thanks a lot !

Florian

Indeed it is possible, however, as you have already seen, not all registrars provide and lets face it - as cool as it is, it will stop quite a lot of traffic and visitors coming your way. Such domains in question are called International Domain Names (IDN) and depending on the domain extension, you can use specific characters that are used in that particular country (for example the umlaut in the German language). Here is a list (don't know how recently updated) that will give a little more info on the characters you are allowed to use:

Hope that helps ;)
