Someone using your Whois

I was just searching to see if one of my blogs came up top on google still as discontinued and i noticed now a lot of whois results come up for domains. I noticed a domain i don't own with my details. It was an unoffensive one fortunately but i checked it out and they even have my name in a gmail email and my old address.
Got me thinking what if it was an offensive name??
Anyway, im obviously not happy about it. What would you say is the best way to stop it. email ther gmail? conntact the registrar, although its a reseller of enom i think and enom are piss poor at getting back on things in my experience. or who is best person to complain to??

any advice appreciated as this is a real liberty and i intend to find out why they use my details. its only a real estate name but maybe was a tm or a drop. who knows.

if it's a .com report it at http://wdprs.internic.net/

other extensions, usually report it to registrar/reseller

that's all there's to it, you can't stop it fully however, just avoid or minimize.

It's very likely that enom will put the name on-hold until the registrant has the whois fixed...

ok, emailed icann. filled in form, submitted form and you get an email with confirmation link, but you go back to start agoin so not convinced it confirmed as sent. we'll see
typical of icann to have a sub standard system

i have submitted ticket to enom, but again not the best customer support we'll see

i also emailed 'myself ' at gmail.com, where else? :| :(
hopefully put the willies up him. wouldnt surprise me if was one of the forum lurker lowlifes anyway. the ones who you never see

either way, he can expect some heat

they can lose their name for fake whois, too.

picking on a domainer with 100 NP buddies isn't all that smart.

thanks for support guys. you are the best

actually this thread could be a really good dry run thread for all of us to learn from in case anyone does to you.
i mean imagine if someone used your name for a bad name, like a terrorist site or something???
doesnt bear thinking. of course you like to think they would look into and absolve you but you never know these days lol
also more worrying someone can open an email in ur name or put your whois behing privacy anyway! first you'd know is the udrp or a knock on door lol

anyway. credit to enom they have got back instantly!

Hello Guy,

As it currently stands, you are the legal owner of this domain (you are listed as the registrant), please contact the following reseller for more information about retrieving your domain...........

:notme:

lol i would love it if it was a one word generic. its not the worst name ive seen but wouldnt rteg it. i emailed the little worm. we'll see what he says. or else i have to email the registar. its a small chinese reseller, so dunno if they'll even get back.
what a pain in the ass, but you have to do on principle, and like i say this could be useful to someone in a rush in future

cheers

One of our staff just went through this ... All Whois info except the email was theirs and being used on an entire portfolio.

After a good bit of complaining to the Registrar - The info was removed and the Account was locked down.

I really don't get it .....

Or you could just call the registrar and tell them you forgot your password, fax them your ID which will confirm the contact info, and the domains will be yours. :notme:

Just kidding, sounds like you're handling it the right way. Good luck getting it resolved :tu:

Sorry to hear this stuff arnie. That is the second time someone has noted that happening that I've seen. This may be a reason to reg names like Lt4ImP.com for 'private' email purposes, and use initials or an alias if not using Privacy Protect (not a fan of myself). Hope it all gets worked out right!

And a rep because...., you like them!! B-)

Also, are you sure it's not a forgotten 'really drunk' reg (D-:) from 'them days' gone before?? :cy:

i am amazed to hear this.. it is the first time I have heard anything like this.. Hope the issue gets sorted.. We need to find a way to stop this so that this does not occur again...

Also, if it were a good domain name...you'd be better off keeping it with you to teach that scum a lesson.. :)

cheers guys.

no word back from icann, i think their submission system is screwed, no surprise there.
enom wanted me to just do myself and said i owned whatever.

however i emailed the person myself and basically told them this was id theft and i had reported to registrar, icann etc and would be taking further.

he has changed to , maybe his own details now.

do you want a link to the whois to see domain and the person responsible? :sold:

Depending on the quality of the names.....
That might not be such a bad thing ;)

All kidding aside, its good to see that it got resolved :)
