Using Forwarding email address for Whois--Allowed?

Here's a scenario:

Let's say my Whois email address is currently Me [at] xxxxxxxxxxxxx.com (not a real address).

Let's say that I set up Hello [at] oooooooooooooooooo.com to forward to the Me email (also not real). In other words, it's not a real email address, just a forward.

Assuming that I have properly set my Me settings to accept mail sent to the Hello address (meaning that I would receive any email sent to the Me address via the Hello address), may I legally use the Hello address as my Whois email, even though it's just a forward to another address and not a real email destination?

Thanks for any help!

My understanding is that as long as you can successfully be contacted at the address it doesn't matter.

Why do you think it would matter?

I'm just trying to cover my bases before I make a massive change to my Domain contacts.

I don't think it should matter, but you never know with all that legalese in registrar TOS.

8-X

I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this without any problem OR if anyone has had a problem doing this.

I have done this since approx 1996. Never had a problem. Among other things you can then forward to multiple addresses to avoid problems with a single address.

When spammers find you at the public whois address, it is a trivial matter to change the public address and keep the same target address.

This type of system allows you to check mail in one place, but have a different email address for every major group or individual contact. (e.g., Namepros has a unique email address on my account). It allows you to easily track the *source* of spam when somebody releases your private email address. That way if NP or whoever leaks the account email, I can quickly change that one account without impacting the zillion other contacts with whom I interact.

Thanks, npcomplete!

Repped.

I agree, it shouldn't be a problem; I'm very good at getting my ducks in a row and monitoring my accounts, especially these days with all the highjacking of domains going on.

It's not a bad idea to do this at all, since if you start getting too much spam you can change the forwarding address from time to time on all of your domains.

But I do recomment that domain owners use at least 2 if not 4 email addresses on the contacts of each domain. Sometimes there are problems with one email address and you want to make sure you get renewal, sales, and of course any C&D emails for your domains. :)

Thanks and

No one wants to get those pesky C&D's but if they are sent, one does need to receive them.
