What are some good scripts/platforms for .tv websites?

What are some good hosting services? And how are you hosting your video heavy .tv websites? ( Dedicated, VPS, Shared?).

What is the best way to get programming help for custom sites? (scriptlance?), If you had a site custom done, what are some rough figures on development costs?

Thanks.

we have two network applied storage units exclusively for videos and pictures. One primary, one backup. Cost per unit around $1,500

We expect to host 1000s of videos.

Local's is a bit overkill for what the normal person would want since you won't be setting up hundreds of video sites.

The best script I have seen is phpmotion. Start with that and have someone design your interface on that. From what I can tell, it is a great platform and you can make it look like whatever you want. I think, although I haven't played with it enough, that you could actually hide the upload functions and only present your users with what you want them to see. Say, an all shoe video site.

If you are planning on hosting and serving your own videos, then you need a dedicated server. You might be able to get by with a VPS, but spend the extra 20% and get the dedicated. The place I get them from does a bottom of the line with cpanel/whm for around $65 a month. They are very good to work with.

Stay away from shared, you never really know what you are getting, but typically, they always oversell.

This is pretty much what I was going to say.
Having used a VPS previously and then upgrading to a dedicated server, I'd say if you can afford it the extra is usually worth it for performance issues (and is likely to be moreso if you're hosting video content).

Nice feedback guys, localexperts sounds like your site could be impactfull...

I was wondering about getting a vps or dedicated, because VPS is managed, i don't have to worry about hardware failure. Does the benefit of dedicated outweigh the risk of server complications?

Also what are some good dedicated hardware providers?

PM me for mine if interested.

To me, dedicated is better, only because even though it is virtual and you are technically alone.....your virtual server could be on a server with tons of other virtual servers, and eventually, someone else could cause a problem bringing them all down.

If you just starting and don't expect much traffic i would suggest to go with shared hosting. Same thing is true if you just setting it up to get better price for later resell. Once you see that it's not enough for you only then move to higher, dedicated hosting. There is no point to start with dedicated unless you know for sure that there is a traffic coming to you.

If you use cirtexhosting there are coupons floating around. One if them is "forum", it suppose to give you 50% off of a standard or higher plan.

If you are starting up a business with your .TV website, I would suggest VPS or shared hosting like mediatemple & dreamhost.com.

If you plan on uploading videos, maybe use cirtexhosting.com hosting along with your other hosting (or VPS or dedicated server).
See how much bandwidth you use up and calculate the amount needed.
If your site increases in traffic and gets popular, then switch over to dedicated.

As for the scripts, phpmotion is the best imo.

Nothing special about their shared hosting. The main thing is that Cirtex supports everything you need to have PHPMotion & can also auto-install it for you, saving all the hassles. Personally, I use Cirtex as well as I wanted to test out PHPMotion. Wasn't a bad deal for $60 for 2 years of hosting with a 50% off coupon.

I was checking out the website of cirtexhosting and see that they have an online site builder. Anyone ever use this? If so what's the pros and cons. I'm not familar with desiging a web site and was searching for something that's somewhat easy to use and not to expensive.
