.tv Shared Dedicated Server Hosting for .TV Developers

I know there are a fair few people here who are trying to develop some of their .TV domains. Hosting/Servers are quite a big issue when it comes to Video because of bandwidth and storage capacity needs.

I have tried a Shared Hosting package and it has been a very poor experience with the website running very slowly and lots of downtime etc.

To get your own Dedicated Server is quite expensive particularly when you are just at the development stage with your websites and have all that unused bandwidth and storage capacity that you are paying for. For most of us the first 6 months or year we will require little storage/bandwidth capacity but would like to speed/reliability of our own server and the option of scalability if one of our sites did start to get some decent traffic etc.

I had a thought that if there were 6/8 .TV developers here on NamePros that were just starting to develop some of their .TV’s and wanted the speed/reliability of there own server that we could club together and get one between us.

If there is only a small number of us it won’t be like a shared hosting package where they put 100’s (or 1,000’s) of sites on the one server and the speed/reliability should be not be an issue.

This means that you can have the quality of your own dedicated server but only pay about 15% - 20% of the normal costs.

Over time if one of the websites starts getting decent traffic and has bigger storage/bandwidth needs than the rest of us they can pay a bigger percent of the costs or move to their own server.

Alternatively, some of you might have got your own dedicated server already but are only using a small amount of its capacity and would like to spread your costs.

why not just go with a VPS instead of sharing root access to a server with someone you just met on a forum?

We could be interested in this a bit later in the summer, a few weeks say. We are still building our sites on ME.TV, but want to try transitioning some sites to developed sites. We would start with one since none of are "developers", we have to software but not much experience in this area yet, so it would be a slow process at first. What kind of money and speed/bandwidth are you talking about, can you put numbers to all this?

VPS = Virtual Private Server. you would be sharing a server but you would be able to use the shared server as if they are a couple separate servers so you would be given root access to the server. You will also be given a guaranteed amount of RAM and it can be burstable upto a certain degree when usage is high. Good thing is that with this, you are not renting out a whole server so you would be paying much less. check out Liquidweb's VPS as I would always recommend them. The VPS you mentioned seems like the ideal situation. Entry level seems to be appox $30/$40 which is great.

The VPS solution is similar to what I was thinking but without the need to do it as a group which makes it much easier for everyone.
