Hi guys,

Just wondering if this has happened to anybody else...I sold 2 domains back in march to the same guy at the same time and I performed the account change. I was looking through my domains on godaddy 2 months ago and saw they were still in my account. The other party must not have accepted them and they defaulted back to my account. I sent him an email at the time I found the domains, I saw he opened it (I use hubspot) and he has never responded. Should I send 1 more courtesy email and if I still don't get a response...can I resell them again?

I'm kind of torn, I could wait for renewal time and just renew them and call them mine again that way...I don't know, what would you guys do?

Thanks,
Eric

Just let him know with a 'mildly' warning message that if he won't respond or act to claim ownership you'll go ahead and claim them.
They're in your account with your tregistrant details and this guy doesn't respond and you also have proof that he doesn't.

Let him also know that emails can be used in legal matters ... just in case he wants to be funny later on

I have had a few situations like that. One was months. I would send a reminder. If you discuss and agree on a refund that would be okay otherwise I would always be honorable about it.

I don't feel a refund is in order, its been months, I've sent him an email stating lets do this account change again and he doesn't respond.....they are decent domains and I won't let them drop....at what point do they become mine again?

It's up to you. I wouldn't judge you. I was just saying that for me, to have a completely clear conscience, I would just return the money. But that's just my opinion.

Hmmmm maybe send him a another mail and tell him that it's coming up for renewal...tell him if it comes to renewal time and he has not responded (give him date) then you will renew the domains at your own expense instead of letting them drop and you would take ownership of the domains again.

Really weird. How does someone buy domains, then just decide not to claim them? Almost seems like they're very absent-minded.

Maybe they thought your were a domain spammer and didn't read your email.
Nevermind, we don't have spammers in this industry. (sarcasm)

Seriously, though. I would just keep trying to contact him. Don't let the domain drop. Give him plenty of warning that the flasks are still in your account. Perhaps try to find out if he has thousands of domains. He may not care anymore. Try to push to his account again. I don't know.

Did you try to push the domains again ?
This should trigger a mail notification to the recipient.

If the sale was mid xxx and higher, I would consider keeping the domain in storage for 2-3 years, even if I had to renew it. Bad things happen in life: people become ill, sometimes die and leave inheritance. However, I would not refund (unless it is a xx sale, in which case it may be easier to refund than to worry about it).

I've met this situation once before, however I email many times to him and also chat with him via Skype and finally he claimed the domain.

I've had that kind of situation before several times, some here at NP. Some people buy so many domains and forgot to accept. I always send a reminder via PM or email (the paypal they use to pay me). I also re-push the domain to trigger a reminder just like @Kate suggested. Just do the best you can especially if it's the right thing to do :) Good karma!

I've had this happen to me as well. Nine months ago a buyer bought 2 domains from me and paid through Paypal. I immediately pushed the domains to the buyer but after 6 weeks (and a few re-pushes later) the buyer still didn't accept the push. I then decided to refund the money and I sent an email notifying the buyer that I refunded his purchase and that, as a result, the domains are mine again. Three months later I sold one of these domains to an end user (for a 10X higher price compared to the original sales price from the 1st buyer).
