I doubt people are gonna sit idle for long as that vacuum sucks every good domain out of the drop, and then posts it on his site for $2000. NameJet and Snapnames are in decline as he beats them everytime. Who is next to challenge him?

He does deserve it. but I think the jury is still out as to whether this is a viable model or not.

good for drew!

however, posting for, and selling for.....are two different actions

and one doesn't guarantee the other will happen as planned.

Andrew does deserve it but in saying that here's a thought.

Has anyone ever thought there's enough domainers and developers at Namepros that together with a combined pool of funds we could build a system to challenge this guy....? Just saying.

You would need to set up a small army of registrars in order to compete, that is not cheap.
I'm not sure a business plan of that magnitude means anything to domainers who are chasing godaddy coupons though :talk:

Also, quality domains seldom drop nowadays yet the guy seems to have found a formula that works for him (I hope so). That is still a high-risk business.
Pool have recently killed many of their registrars and I know of at least two private registrars that have withdrawn from the game years ago. The game was not profitable enough to justify the costs of maintaining a registrar.

I don't think there is enough money in the pockets of all the members of NamePros to compete with Andrew. Maybe not enough skills/balls either (no intentional knocking of any of us). Besides he's cleaned the drops of any good domains over the last couple of years. We'd be picking up his drops (which I did a couple of weeks ago). He's doing what we all dream/wish we could do. It would be interesting to see his accounts.

A solution to Andrew Reberry huh?

This is so easy most won't agree but the answer is simple " Development".

If you stop chasing hundreds of thousands a names and sit down and develop even 10% of your portfolio and build a revenue stream your already ahead of andrew. Think about it while he's fighting tooth and nail to avoid renewal fees of thousands of names your cashing checks :)

Just my 2 cents

Development would be good idea....... but you should have plan, willing to spend money and take risk.

not to take credit from anybody for what they've accomplished, as we all know domaining is competive by nature.

but sometimes, domain names look or have more appeal....when somebody else owns them or the names are seen, being listed, by/with others.

almost like you being cool (accepted) by/with another gang cuz you with me.

sometimes it works, sometimes not, as not is when the name don't sell at premo.

that though, is about brand building.

many names i've dropped, end up in the circulation of other dn hands, but when i had them...no action.

could be bad choices or just didn't hold em long enough

but that's part of the game too

imo...

No you are right Biggie and I know guys who have overpaid buying from big domainers and felt honored, they were thrilled to buy a domain off a big guy. Then I look at the metrics, the name and say you overpaid and they were like maybe but I still did a deal with so and so and that's really cool.

I can tell you I have done tests and moved names to someone else who was bigger just for the test and they got offers and people willing to pay up when in the past I had offered the name to them for $100. Its crazy but anyone who believes that there is no one paying up for Domainer "celebrity" is naive or does not sell a lot of domains.

I've been actively dropping my adult domains. HugeDomains has picked up about 10% of them. They have a particular penchant for the word, boobs, for some reason.

I jettisoned a couple of my adult domains too. Adult stuffs are junk business nowadays.

People chase all different kinds of domains and Andrew doesn't get them all. I do see BackorderZone getting more and more lately and NameJet still does a pretty good job with the backorders..

There may not be as many good domains dropping on a daily basis but you can still usually find a handful at the least..

the "celeb" status plays important role in "shaping" the minds of the unsure.

the underlining premise that floats in a 'newbs mind' when reading or viewing a list of celeb domains is:

if they own these names, then they must be good or worthy of investing in same niche'.

not saying that they don't have top tier names, but it's the assumption about the portfolio that moves the crowd.

as acheiving 'notoriety' and making an 'impression' on the vunerable, either directly or with the help of others, is beneficial to those in the group.

once you reach elite status, those who heard or read the stories about you... will slap themselves, before sending you a lowball offer.

its not easy to develop a site that anyone would care about and you are always at the whim of google. no model is perfect really. you can spend weeks/months developing a site and if it fails, its all time wasted.

im sure andrew got investment money to do what he's doing now. in 2009 he only had the one registrar, how he has a dozen or so. what happened between 2009 to 2011 to make him so much money? it wasn't hard to beat him in 2009. i see drops all the time from him as well and often question the domains i do see him pick up. for every great domain he gets, he also gets 10-20 (what i view as) worthless domains. the software he uses can't beat manual searching in terms of domain quality. its faster for sure but eventually he is going to need to refine what he thinks is worth catching.

Andrew Reberry "solution" will be delivered from Andrew Reberry himself.

I don't see an Andrew Reberry problem. There's are a thousand ways to buy and sell domains, so if his purchases are stifling you, simply change your approach. It's never wise for to go up against someone so heavily funded unless you have a unique edge, anyway.
He's picked up lots of my drops. While I may get a tinge of regret at that, it's far better than nobody wanting the names I drop.
There are so many ways to proceed - choose one that doesn't cause you to dream about Andrew Reberry.
