Ok, I'm new here as evidenced by my last post regarding my first dot tv registrations.

I'd like to know what you guys think makes for a great dot tv domain name? And, how is it different from other extensions, namely dot com?

I looked at Enom's premium dot tvs...not so special. I checked out Sedo's premium auction and the tvs there were OK...a few decent ones. Even the highest bid dot coms seemed kinda randomly priced.

So, what do you think?

type in traffic would be a bonus, even though its rare.

I like spelling out loud every .tv I m about to register, if it sounds right I "buy" it, if not I pass.

Need to Specify:

As a reseller...
As a developed site...

Snoop is correct here.

For example, Football.tv is great, Pencil.tv not good.
Don't get hung on because it's a dictionary word. However, short acronym's LL are solid investments.

Don't forget to look at the spanish market or other growing popular languages but same principles apply.

Thanks, Jim

IMHO .TV's should have lots of videos. Buy domains that could be developed with relevant/entertaining video content. Using the example from above, Pencil.TV Not Good, Surfing.TV GOOD, or Poker.TV GOOD, ect..

Lot's of debate around here also about GEO .TV's. Refer to this thread.

Why Pencil.TV = Bad ?

It looks like a good domain for an animation software website to me.

It is really pretty eye opening to see the differences in some of the .TV domainers strategy's here.

Everyone is different and actually people change their strategy often. I know I am. So there is no right or wrong answer as to what makes a great .TV domain. Everyone has had their own measure of success using very different techniques.

Look at recent .TV Sales and you can see for yourself what is currently doing well in this Market.

All of the above advice up there is great, but sometimes you have to trust your gut.
You did pretty good on your first reg's.

FlipFlops, and GardenTools are better first .TV reg's than most have regged upon entering this extension, me too, lol

Thx,
Vito.

If you want a very very bad .TV domain name, here's 2:

TRADEMARK.TV
COPYRIGHT.TV

TRADEMARK.TV
COPYRIGHT.TV

Why? They would work fine for a video related website about trademarks or copyright issues, law firms etc.

I agree I can't call that a "BAD" name. For me personally it would be a difficult one to develop, unless I didn't use the world literally. I am a developer ONLY not a reseller ATM, so I focus on sites I have the skills/expertise/resources to develop effectively.

Not necessarily a software...

With Pencil.TV i could make a tutorial website that teach you how to make traditional animation.

Now thats an excellent idea Animator,

That is thinking "outside of the box"
using a product related name as a brandable for a video tutorial drawing site!

Then after you get traffic, you ould start seling all types of artist/drawing supplies.

I would even like to visit that site.

and it would be an inredible idea for the sole reason of Anime being So incredibly, Over the Top - HOT!

Now, I want YOU to buy it and develop That Killer idea so I can learn. :)
Very Cool.

...touche, Animator...you live up to your name! I truly appreciate your thinking and thank you for expressing your ideas here so we all can learn how to push that envelope.

if you do not develop, market it and make it visible and attractive to those who see the bigger picture. You are there!

...by the way, you are as sharp as tht pencil! no dull points here!

I'm breaking my lurking cycle here for Chgowriter since you are a newbie like me (and of course info. and opinion for everyone else).

The .TV extension has so many uses that many people are not taking into consideration when evaluating a .TV. I'm not saying that the type of use I am going to describe will definitely translate to sales and development, but with current trending, it certainly could do so.

For example - take the medical profession of Audiology, (hearing evaluation by an AuD). Who would think that Audiology would have anything to do with .TV? Probably no one would give it a second thought.

Well ... the first transatlantic Audiometric testing was recently completed from a university setting in the US to a patient in Africa. After the test was complete - the lady said she was so grateful that she could have her hearing test done over the TV.

This same thing is said over and over by patients seeing doctors at VA teleclinics, other teleclinics, healthcare providers who practice via teleconferencing out of their home, office, etc., etc. Most all the patients call their treatment - "my TV doctor", nurse, therapist, etc. - and KIDS esp. love it and call it โ€œTV therapyโ€!

A job interview is another .TV application, I can see coming. When a company isn't able to spend the money to fly the candidate to their office - what do they do? They have a teleconference with the applicant. In the not so distant future I can foresee people completing their resumes via video and shooting them to prospective employers.

I employ almost 100 people and registered the .TV for my business domain to eventually have my recruiter post videos describing job openings at my company. We are in short supply for the type of people we employ, so any strategy I can employ to 'get a leg up' on my competition will mean more revenue for me.

Some enterprising developer and I wish I had the skills - is probably going to do a job site with the job seekers presenting themselves via video, in addition to giving employers a printed resume. I believe this developer will make some serious money, if the concept is marketed well. I think the .TV extension will be perfect for this kind of venture.

.TV is so much more than what any of us can imagine. I do however; believe some of these types of domains are long term investments and not something a person can flip.

But technology is a fast moving thing โ€ฆ who knows what the future will bring?

You bring up some great points Tele.

That is the #1 reason I bought one of my favorite domains - Application.tv

The "thinking outside of the box" here and atually developing will truly set .TV in its rightly deserved place soon. IMO

You really should Post in here more often :)

Vito - You're right, I should post more but :talk::music::yell: - kind of takes the wind out of my sail.

The future of .TV is bright, no doubt about that!

"Great" is a relative term ... there are, of course, no "great" .TV's, IMHO; that being said, if the domain is a good match with this niche/vanity ccTLD extension ... and has an application with regard to video-centric content, it could be a good, fun development potential/project! :music: :imho:

All the best,
Jeff B-)

When you state IMHO, you hit the nail on the head.

I'm just qualifying that statement for those new to the .tv forum/extension who may not be aware of your "imho", which, to lift a line from Winston Churchill, the opinion has much to be humble about.

Hello tele and welcome :)

job interviews via video have been taking place for awhile now..... InterviewStream - online webcam video job interviews

Your recruiter describing job openings.....my thoughts would be to have current folks that hold those positions now (unless of course your replacing them! ) describe the positions - who better right!

Great to see you here for sure - keep coming back "Dot TV works if you Work It"

Couldn't help myselves guys!

oh and Vito aka the dot stop - it really doesn't take "thinking outside the box" - because creatives don't even think about why or why not an url extension has anything to do w development .... all it really takes is "thinking outside a .TV forum" --

Off to brainstorm about 2010 Tweetsgiving here in Tampa Bay :)
