Hi,

I need advice on whether or not to buy a particular hand-reg dot tv.

I like dot tv, I have four, so that's not the issue.

I need to know whether or not to register a killer two-word-hyphenated dot tv domain.

I know a lot of people don't like hyphens in dot coms, for a dot tv it's the absolute kiss of death. A foolish buy even if the keyword is great.

But the domain (or I should say the two-words) fit right in with a handful of domains I've been collecting that I'm building into a little network of related sites. There's one main site and the others will either eventually be smaller affiliate sites related to my main topic or they will redirect traffic to my site or a page on the site. I imagine I'd use this one to hopefully point some searches my way.

What do you think? Stop me! Please! I really want this domain!

if you are developing i do not think the hyphen is a problem

Yeah? Well, what if I redirect it to my main site? Will I see any benefit?
The keywords are right.

i think a redirect is considered a link

but that's about it

Let's sum up:
  • .tv (extension)
  • 2 keywords
  • 1 hyphen
Perhaps it's registered in other extensions, but does it fit .tv ?

If you really want it, grab it. Develop it but don't expect the domain to have resale value undeveloped.

Possible benefits of the redirect could be type-in traffic, preventing others getting a competing name, or getting some pagerank from the link. But if no one links to that name I can't see how it will help you with pagerank.

I don't see a hyphenated .tv name getting type-in traffic, or people just linking to it for no reason.

Renewals aren't cheap in .tv so you need a good reason to do this, up to you to decide really.

I appreciate your thoughts and thanks for slowing me down before I wasted my money.

You know, this domain looks so nice, so inviting, so tempting...but I know it's wrong. It breaks too many rules, no one will ever type it in and it probably won't help me much. I'm gonna pass. Instead, I'll follow the rules I learned here in this forum...I'll save my money and wait for something that's maybe less attractive but delivers more return on investment.

Thanks again.

p.s. I hope you don't mind, but to protect me from myself I promised myself I wouldn't spend a dime until I got responses in this forum. The tactic worked. Thanks again

It looks like you answered your own question.
