.com that's already developed. Stupid, or worth pursuing under the right circumstances?

I should preface with the fact I've pursued the .com for years. The owner simply has no interest in selling.

But I do have the .net and while it's not worth much, I value it the most in my portfolio. It inspires me the most and I truly feel I could develop this name. I should also note the .com revolves around one category. I'm thinking of spanning several with the .net

Is it really worth pursuing? Could I realistically build a .net or should I just move on?

I'd say it really depends on what the content is. Are they a competitor for your content?

Is it a general name that could be used for an entire category of interests? For example, anime.com could have their anime fan-site and anime.net could have their own anime fansite as well. That would be something I'd find acceptable although competitive and annoying.

Overall I wouldn't do it though. I just couldn't deal with developing google.net and having to compete against google.com. Hypothetical of course.

go for it. If the owner won't sell its not a big deal. .Net can rank very well and in some cases even higher than a developed .com.

the .net could just be a better site than the .com, more links in etc.

For that matter, any .tld can rank higher the .com if the site has a better plan behind it.
