The big question....

Does the name of a domain have any impact on search related results?

Eg. i start a website focusing on soccer...

I could call it.... soccerworld.com

but i decide to call it finalwhistle.com

So, does the domain name have any impact on search related results, inparticular searches with the word 'soccer'. If so, to what extent do these effect search results?

I think it matters but not to serious extent.
If you search "soccer" on google, 8 of 10 results has "soccer" in its domain, of coz you can have your keywords searched by google, but have some keywords in a domain is an extra choice. And that's why I regged domainhosting.cc. This extension sucks (not very) but great two keywords for my business.
BTW, soccerworld.com is a nice practical domain, you should reg it. But finalwhistle.com is great ideal name for your site.

I would say having good keywords in your domain helps alot, althought a good page title, meta tags and relevant page content are also needed to get placed near the top in Google.

In Google have you noticed that if your search keyword is in the domain name it makes it bold, this I assume means it is of importance, is this correct ?

I hope more people answer this thread - it's a good question

zymic means fermentation or something, so no name does not really matter that much as long as it's easy to remember and you dev it into a busy active site.

IMO:

MSN: domain name has much weight

Y!: domain name has some weight (used to be as much as MSN, but things have changed recently)

G-0--og_le: Not much weight, but searches for your keyphrase without spaces, i.e. "soccerworld" may be ranked very high.

As always, IMO.
