Does size matter?

I found nice 3 words (23 characters) domain which has almost 10 000 overture searches.
This would be my longest domain.
My question is – how much do you rely on overture search results when purchasing long names?

Thanks

Some ideas take a full three words to make sense. If yours is one of these, then size doesn't really matter as much if the point can't be made well with only two words. I will only register 3 word names if the two word name is not specific enough to make the generic name point.

For example the domain FullFigureWoman.com is a common phrase that doesn't make sense taking away one of the words. However just adding a word because the two word domain is taken is not as desirable as in the example of taking BlondeWoman.com and making it TheBlondeWoman.com. The former WILL get some traffic intended for the latter one.

hahah does size matter... If this wasn't our buisness it would be a midly funny topic title to the unsuspecting... Oh well, I personally think shorter domains are better because the are easier to remeber and they and usually 1 or 2 words related to the topic, AUTOLOANSFORLESS would not be as popular as AUTOLOANS I am just using an example..

Actually, size does matter ....when the domain (or anything else LOL) is really short or really long...the shorter the domain, more valuable it is (in most case), and longer it is, less valuable is the domain...but that doesn't mean 9 letter domain is 1/10 MORE valuable than a 10 letter domain...but when it's significantly short or long, the value significantly change.

Well,

We all know that short is good :)

Let’s forget about the size for a second.
Three words combo I’m about to buy has almost 10.000 Overture searches.
I think it’s a nice number.

I’m just not sure if long names are worth buying based on popularity of the keywords combination. I’m talking about name that makes lots of sense.
e.g. FoodServiceIndustry.com

Thanks

I don't rely so much on overture as much as traffic (yahoo searches, google etc). But size won't matter if the 3rd word is important to make that a "sensible" domain. :)

Anyway, if it is easy to remember, the size doesn't matter, even it will be better than those short domains which you should explain the meaning to others. :)

As I always say:
Three worders are usually one word too long.

That doesn't mean they aren't just the right length sometimes -- just not usually.

I rely on Overture when I register a traffic domain so Overtures shows me the number of searches for term or expression with extension. As for now it seems to be the best way for guaranteed natural traffic of some kind. I also registered domains with hundreds of thousands Overtures searches without extension and if it is not .com or so they hardly receive any traffic undeveloped. So, if you want to register traffic domain earning some money somewhere just look for searches with extension. But if you like the name and want to develope it - just register it. :)

Strong temptation to buy if the results are a direct match. 3 words is ok if it can't be done in two and it completes the thought with no padding.

if you have a market/development plan for the name and it sounds good, i say go for it!

"IWantTeenP*ssy.com" 14 characters and 4 words just went for $1000 on Afternic. Go figure that one out.

Depends on what your plans are for the name.
If you plan to try to sell it, I wouldn't bother, it'll be a hard sell.
If you plan on developing it I say go for it.

Back in the days when .info's were free I registered weightwatchersrecipes.info - how many letters we got there? Figured with OVT of 36,823 for "weight watchers recipes" and OVT of 338 for "weightwatchersrecipes" - why not.

Slapped up a quicky site with little content and a month later with no promotion it is getting avg. 16.4 uniques daily
