Hi all,

I backordered a domain that was dropping which had 30 or so people also backordering the site but for some reason now the status of the domain has been changed to 'backorder' when it was supposed to go to auction.

I looked up the whois and I believe it was picked up by snapnames (last IP address was snapnames.com llc)

Does this mean they did not capture the domain in time and now it belongs to someone else?

I had it twice happen to me before so far. It's been 2-3 days since the status has changed.

If snapnames were the ones to catch it and you put in your bid in time, then you would be part of the private auction. I assume snapnames did not catch the drop.

Thanks for your reply.

On average, how long does it take for an auction to begin? This is probably the first time ever where snapnames were not able to capture a name that I wanted.

I noticed that auction started for a few others that I backordered last night so it's strange that it'll take this long. It's been a day or two.

If the auction ended and you didnt get the domain, it would have gone to another service/registrar. The same has happened to me many times.
