I tried to register, VACATION .MONEY.

Th registrar (namecheap)would not allow me to register it. They said the reason why, is because it came back as being a trademarked name.

Is it possible for anybody to trademark a single english word? I know APPLE probably has it, I am just curious, how can somebody trademark such a word? I could se a short phrase or string of words, but a single word? I actually checked the trademark database for it, and it did not show ass being trademarked.

By the way, I meant to use TRADEMARK in this thread title, NOT Copyright

I think you can trademark a single word if that word is applied to something else that is not its true definition.

You can't trademark a word for it's core definition. Can't go around trademarking 'Shirt' or 'Book'

But you can trademark 'Elephant' for Insurance.

Then again this is just my common sense speaking so not 100% and don't care to research atm. But we see trademarks on single words Today already (Apple) so there's your answer.

They explained to me that the registrar has reserved those names, and marked them as TRADEMARKED. It happened on 2 in a row I tried to reg, ACCESS .money & VACATION .money

I had the same thing happen on a new gtld domain, Namecheap would not allow it to be registered claiming trademark, it was not it was a generic keyword, registered in at least 80 extensions with different registrants all around, I went to Name.com and regged it and sold the name for a profit two months later. It seems Namecheap is being over cautious on registrations.

You shall not:
Use Namecheap for new gTLD's.

They don't have an ETA for transfering new g's yet.
That silly trademark/copyright filter.
Won't work with premium domains.

FYI you can register those domains at a GOOD registrar just not at the reseller Namecheap.

What do you mean by that? I just verified, you can transfer them from Namecheap after 60 days, and push ownership of them to a new owner immediately

The company I work for has an English dictionary word trademarked, so it's possible :)
