Should I change registrars?

The vast majority of my names are registered with Impressive Domains, although. I do have about 25 with 1&1, a few personal domains at Bravenet and a couple at FastHosts.

Until I joined NamePros I didn't think the registrar was all that important. However, in the marketplace forums I keep seeing GoDaddy, Dynadot etc (all of which I have now joined) but especially GoDaddy.

Should I transfer my Impressive Domains portfolio to GoDaddy to make transactions easier and more inviting to potential purchasers?

One last thing, the set up of GoDaddy and Impressive Domains is very similar and I am sure I keep seeing the same customer service lady everywhere I go! - are they in any way connected?

Many thanks in advance.

Never heard of Impressive Domains or FastHosts, 1&1 are basically regarded as scammers. Very few if any domainers use these registrars and you will sturggle to sell domains registered at them. Also they are all probably resellers and not registrars except 1&1. My advice would be transfer to GoDaddy or Dynadot. Godaddy for cheaper (6.99$ for .com with right coupon) or Dynadot for better service.

I use them for most of my .co.uk's and they're currently my favoured .uk registrar.

@donq- as Dean says, many 'domainers' may be less willing to buy from you if your names are at an undesirable registrar. If you we're selling example.com which was at 1&1 (US), and I thought it was worth about $100, I'd transfer it out on receipt, so would take off the $7 transfer plus something like $10 for the hassle. I'm going to offer you $83 for your $100 name.
In addition to GoDaddy and Dynadot, I would also like to suggest eNomCentral.com, Moniker.com, DomainSite.com, Name.com and NameCheap.com as 'domainer' registrars.

Thanks for this info and for the suggestions - much appreciated. I think tomorrow I will start the process!

Good point, I havent had the need to register a .uk yet, even though I hope to in the future, so dont really know some of the good .uk registrars out there.

Hi Dean, I found them very fast and efficient with an SMS confirmation of the account as well as a security phone call well within the time specified. As I am in Aus, the call would have been made early morning UK time. The reason I used them was that at that particular time I wanted a .co.uk domain and they were offering .co.uk free with a .com purchase. Not sure if that offer still stands or if it was a one off.

You would definitely get more buyers if your domains were at GoDaddy.
NameCheap is another one that you should try.
Not that your current domain registrars are bad, it's just most people aren't using them.

Thanks Jerlene. I started moving a couple of them yesterday to get the hang of it, however, I have about 160 names registered with Impressive Domians, and it's about AUD10.40 for each transfer!
