I'm thinking of registering a domain. The full domain contains 14 alphabets (is this too long?) or the abbreviated version 7 alphabets. Which do you prefer?

That really depends on the word that's being abbreviated and if people would remember how to abbreviate it. I wouldn't say 14 characters is a lot to be honest, and the full version is often more memorable, but the shorter version is brandable too.

Bear in mind that if that website becomes popular then people will steal the alternate version of the domain, so you might want to consider getting both. If it's for a company or something similar you should definitely register both.

If you could reveal a bit of the name or the abbreviated word, it may help. ;)

The fullname is a combination of 2 generic words (investmentxxxx). Not associated with any special names. The abbreviated version is reixxxx.com Rei stands for real estate investment.

If you intent to develop and both names are currently available get both IMO :)

That is the one I would lean towards.

go for the longer one instead of the abbreviated version.

I'd use the longer one too. Keywords, easy to spell etc.
whereas the abbre. one though catchy may be a little confusing...

ask yourself which is more memorable...its probably the 24ch?

14 character won't be too long IMO, and since the fullname is a combination of 2 generic words, I think you should definitely go for the fullword long name which would be more descriptive too.

Agree with above, If both words are generic and ot obscure ones then you should be ok with the longer one.

Yes I agree you must go for longer name instead of abbreviated version.
