how is that, just because there is a thing called a "tv set"? does that really fit the ext? as far as i can tell you dont need a set for internet tv.

setless.tv might be a better fit. (available!)

...but in this case someone needed $29,000 to acquire the domain name, and by crikey, they got it!...

I was going to ask something similar as Fin. Why do you think it fits the extension? I can see this selling here for very little and everyone going "Well, it didn't fit the extension."

So, if you could help me understand why it does with something other than "because it's so obvious" I'd appreciate it.

I'm sure the buyer thinks it fits - if say it was Sony Entertainment Television or something - or Sanli E-Television.. it makes sense.

If anyone thinks it fits because of "TV Set" - it would be the same as saying PersonalLawyerInjury.com makes sense imho.

Adrian I guess some would say, Set fits as in TV Set. I am not sure that's why it was bought, Sony Entertainment Television makes sense to me, or maybe some other acronym or maybe a new start up that will be doing Internet television. I think very good 3 letter domains can fetch a decent price especially if the seller was an unmotivated seller and held for their price. Again IMO

Funny John I was typing when you posted, I thought Sony Entertainment Television too. Or maybe Sports Entertainment Television.

I see the obvious (:O) large groups (SET India / Sony, Toyota, etc.) and some of the acronyms (Sustainable Energy Technology, Safety Education and Training, military, etc.). I can see one of the larger groups spending that kind of money.

Anyway, that's kind of what I was wondering.

It might be an end around. The seller likes the TV Set "thingy" so much that he/she sticks firm to the $29,000 price, while the buyer wants it for something totally different.

Very nice sale I am not sure why it sold for that much though

I would have thought a group of people who put real value in this name would be those who operate in the very lucrative world of theatrical/film/television set construction.

If that was my business I would be very happy to own the name name SET.tv

Of course, they could be concrete or jelly (jello) makers who just like to show off!

Must be a generation thingy because terms such as 'set top box/ tv set ......seem to fit in well in my view

anyway it's friday .....beertime !

happy to admit i own 'internetconnected' ....if that's a problem

Could be a geographic thingy. I'm almost 40 and my first tv was B&W. Never heard of a tv referred to as set top box, but that means nothing.

Cheers & Drink up!

My first dev thought was for an "On The Set TV" site.

These shows are increasingly popular, can feed on a fast growing pool of existing content, and provide an access angle to ALL visual media -TV, film, photography (studio & field).

Then there is the booming biz of virtual sets increasingly used by major studios and UGC producers... and everybody in-between.

Very nice buy, IMO. Fits the extension perfectly. Its a category killer for Set TV programs. The 'How To' / DIY 'Set TV Show' market alone could be a profitable, sponsor driven, channel on YouTube, or Cable.

Your first thought was to add words to the name.

Very nice buy, IMO. Fits the extension perfectly.
I think OnTheSet.TV at a savings of $28,889.01would be a better buy, frankly.

I would venture a guess that SET doesn't naturally fit the extension as well as it naturally fits the business that will operate on it. imho, all speculative of course.
