We will be running some server maintenance for the next few weeks and you may experience some temporary outages or pages loading funny. Please bear with us as we isolate a few areas of our code and make some much needed updates.

Thanks,

Eric Lyon

----------------------------------------

Update: We've successfully retired the gerbils running in the server wheel and upgraded to a team of stallions. :P The Primary Maint. of changing servers is now complete. Please report / post any issues you may be experiencing in this thread. It would be extremely helpful if you can include screenshots, browser + version, operating system, and as much detail as possible about the issue / bug you encountered.

Thanks for your patience,

Eric Lyon

Actually it seems to be bringing up all the threads I ever wrote now...

That's what it's supposed to do, I think. Here's the search query when I click the link:

  • Show posts with thread results: No
  • Only show threads started by user: Yes
  • Exact username match: Yes
  • Search username: Paul Buonopane

If you hover over the link, you can see this query encoded in the URL:
Code:
http://www.namepros.com/search.php?do=process&[b]showposts=0&starteronly=1&exactname=1&searchuser=Paul%20Buonopane[/b]

---------- Post added at 12:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 PM ----------

I've done pretty much all of the optimization that I can on the search engine. Here's how it works now: the more recent results your query returns, the higher the probability that it will complete quickly. Sounds silly, but it works quite well, and it was either that or the other way around. Search for something like "domains" and it will take under a second. Search for nonsense and you'll be waiting a while. Search for something posted ages ago, and it'll take a good 30 seconds.

All it takes is one really recent match to make the whole query run fast, though that's an oversimplification. For example, searching for "server maint" runs quite quickly as of writing, since this thread is active.

The catch is that newer, more recently active threads are likely to appear at the top, but this is technically not a guarantee. To be perfectly technical, we don't actually request any ordering whatsoever, but the database tends to use ordering to speed up queries. Enforcing ordering would significantly slow the queries.

Still, cannot bring up any recent threads....

UPDATE TO ABOVE.....in my "Active Threads" section....

I cannot bring up any active threads for anything "remotely" recent.

It is only showing the 90 threads I listed from 12/9/2008 - 11/9/2009.

What's happening? Am I in the "twilight zone?"

@ "My Active Threads" Reports: After some troubleshooting, we isolated the problem to a conflicting DB setting in search tables + a VB caching issue. The table value was corrected and the caching for that search table was turned off. Further testing shows that it appears to be working fine again and showing most recent threads at the top as it should. Let me know if that fixed it for you as well. ;)

All fixed... thanks Eric

Listen, I'm still getting intermittent action on the rep situation.

Am I just F'd or what?
Not a big deal to you? Well it is to me.

Nobody but me having this problem?

The new server hates Cyberians.

IE8

Peace,
Cy

I've actually been looking into it; I just don't have anything interesting to reveal yet. I thought I fixed it when I fixed the thanks//like functionality, but you said several times that it was still broken.

I don't think it's related to the new servers; it's more likely something specific to your web browser. We made one particular change to improve support for Internet Explorer, but there's a chance that it could have broken some things, too. Internet Explorer is a bit unpredictable, though IE8 tends to be decent at degrading gracefully. I'll test it some more and get back to you in a few minutes.

---------- Post added at 02:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:03 AM ----------

Hmm... I still can't seem to encounter that problem, even in IE 8. Do you have another browser that you can use for testing?

I just tested IE8 again on a test account & made all the account settings identical to yours. I reped paul with a test comment so he can see it when he logs in again.

However, i did notice a slight lag / delay using IE8, it took 2 to 5 seconds for the rep window to appear after clicking the rep (scales) icon in IE8. In ff & chrome the popup happens almost instantly.

Could you click rep and wait about 5 seconds or so to see if it pops up before you click anything else please. Also link me to a post you tried to rep and couldn't so i can test that to.

Thanks

Try right click open in new tab.. it's just php with a parameter. That works for me in IE when the button doesn't work - but mostly it just takes forever to work in IE

^^^ I got one in that thread when I posted it, but now get 404

Etc...

All above get 404s. I guess it's only me, eh? The new server hates Cyberians...racist bs.

So whats the new rule? You can only tag your own thread?

Peace,
Cy

Just curious, what are the Exact steps you are taking to get to those links you posted so we can troubleshoot some more?

E.g.: Click tag, add tag, then poof 404?

The problem appears to be a cookie or something on the login.

If you right click new tab you get taken to a "please login: page. It somehow resets your login.

I guess when you straight click it doesn't log you out but doesn't recognize that you are logged in either?

Ok, I just used a test account in IE8 to rep you and did what you said: Right click rep icon > new Tab > add comment > submit.

It seems to have worked fine for me. Didn't log-out the test account or ask for it to login.

About to double check Tags now to see if it does anything different there, will update momentarily

Update: following same steps for Tagging in IE8 I added "Testing Tag" to the tags in the footer of this thread: http://www.namepros.com/761952-du-johname-and-friends-shoot-sh-297.html

Seems to have worked fine for me.

The 502 gateway error seems to be resolved. I'll update the thread if I see it happening again.

I just liked a post I'm seeing the code behind it:

The post is here: http://www.namepros.com/domain-appraisals/803199-ebookdivvy-com-and-geezs-com.html

Update: Oh weird. I reloaded the page and the html is gone. It looks like that only happens when you first press like. I tried it under Eric_Lyon's most recent post as well and got this:

Confirmed, I'm seeing the same glitch when clicking Thanks the first time & then on page reload it clears up.

Thanks for the report

@ Truncated Line Reports::: For those of you that had truncated post problems before, if you could please update this thread and let us know if that's been resolved for you, or if you have experienced any more recently. If so, please link to the post. That would be a big help.

Thanks,

Eric Lyon

This should work, but I'd like to get the JavaScript working again, too. I have no idea why it suddenly stopped working. The JavaScript shouldn't have been affected by the change of servers.

link on np clicks are broken, just showing a blank page for me on ff
http://www.namepros.com/npclick.php?id=7ANSW03lqruRX

the 2 rss are down, just showing blank page, and my feed demon stopped getting news from your forum
http://www.namepros.com/external.php?type=rss
http://www.namepros.com/external.php?type=rss2

Thanks for the report, we are aware of both those and have them on the list to look into later on. We're still looking into some higher priority bugs at the moment so it may be a little while before we can get to those.
