Has anyone else noticed that NamePros is starting to sell out? I see more and more ads every day. I know, you can makea lot of money, but still they are making quite a bit from it. I am not saying I am upset enough to leave I am just sad that NP is losing its value.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

RJ probably makes little to no real money off of NP. The bandwidth costs alone have to be enormous. Even if he does, it's wonderful for him. He provides a great service and has a great site.

"Sellout?" Not hardly.

what would you prefer, a free domain fprum with a few ads here and there, or a domain forum where you need to pay $25 to join?

The title hurts... :sob:

The three ads look cool, add more colour to the vibrant NP forum.
As long as the ads are relevant they are an asset,
well, scrolling all the way down to the ads is quite a trouble ;)

A few of the several billion pixels for sale is not even modest...wow..a sellout?

Can I stick up for the minority and agree with Bryan a bit? Hear me out. Don't reply unless you've read and contemplated my FULL post.

While Ron deserves the money - doesn't he have enough already? - The popularity of NamePros should be enough reward. I don't know his personal finances and none of you do either but I would think that Ron should be able to make some money other ways.

I'm not saying the ads are intrusive, but I do think that NamePros is starting to go to pot. Now let me clarify this statement gently before you freak out and ban me or something.

To Ron: Nothing personal whatsoever. I respect you, your ambition, your values, and your patience. I don't mind the ads myself but it's a matter of principle IMO. Making money off a site isn't a bad thing - it's great - but it's to what extent you go to to make... more than you need from it. The NP$ Exchange and your domain hobby and other sites should bring enough, should it not? Shouldn't the pride of owning a forum like this be enough to satisfy you? Again, nothing personal; I'm just saying that to some new members it may seem greedy. I don't think you're greedy, I just don't want you to become greedy ^_^

Now I don't want to get banned for this, or warned (since all I need is one more warning point before I'm banned) - but I need to say that I think some of your staff need to get a talking to or ... get replacements... I don't mean to sound harsh and I won't mention both of their usernames but I think that they can guess who they are.

I've heard at least a dozen complaints in the year 2006 alone - not including myself - of unjust moderator actions. I know it's not a democracy but I think that they shouldn't be allowed to be dictators either. These 2 in particular always seem to be on power trips. I think that - if you're not going to do anything ELSE about it - I think you should at LEAST tell them to be more diplomatic and hear things out... and to stop avoiding answering questions in the PTS forum unless they can find something to pin you on! That's one thing that's driving me MAD.

I just don't want all the NamePros addicts here (me included) to become completely 100% solid concrete FOR namepros. Yeah, I'm very much for it but I think that on any site, there should be something you dislike about it. There isn't a single site I don't like something - small or major - about it.

Now that I have this off my chest I hope you'll ponder and/or consider what I've said. And I hope that this doesn't result in a banishment or warning on my part. Now that you've READ this, you can go ahead and reply about it. I don't want a whole argument to start because I'm not going to argue my case very much... I just want this to be considered.

Cheers,
-Matt

Reading this gave me a few ideas...

Make a paid secondary usergroup that would remove ALL of the ads.
Make a FREE secondary usergroup that would show pop-ups and other ads for members who wish to give support to RJ and NP...

If NamePros got popups I would leave permanently. And so would a thousand other users.

ZuraX, I really don't think that's necessary. That's only one step closer to becoming a paid forum, and I don't think we want that. In my opinion, its not really a problem at all, and people are not thinking straight if they say the advertising is intrusive.

As to Matt's comments...I couldn't really disagree with you more. Your basically saying that if Ron makes enough money to run the site and live, then he shouldn't try to make anymore. If that was true, 100% of all companies in the world would no longer exsist. Now I am not saying RJ should put ads all over the site, but if you add a small section of nonintrusive ads, I have no problem with it, and Ron should definitely take advantage of the chance to make the money. I can't speak for him, but just because you have some money, doesn't mean your satsified with that amount. Look at Bill Gates. He has billions of dollars, yet he still goes to work everyday trying to increase his profits.

And about your points about the NP Staff...From what I have read of some of your other posts, it sounds like you have had a couple of bad experiences with them, and you seem to have a vendetta against them. I think the NP Staff are very fair, and always try to get the full story before making a decision. Not everyone is perfect, even the NP Staff, so just remember that when they may make one mistake out of a couple hundred decisions...

you have had a couple of bad experiences with them
More than 2, that's for certain.

and you seem to have a vendetta against them.
Indeed I do. And so do a little over 30 other people.

I think the NP Staff are very fair, and always try to get the full story before making a decision.
Well apparently you've never tried to suggest something to them.

Not everyone is perfect, even the NP Staff
That doesn't mean they have to be dictitorial.

one mistake out of a couple hundred decisions...
You have that backwards.

Look at Bill Gates. He has billions of dollars, yet he still goes to work everyday trying to increase his profits.
Hoo boy, don't get me started... you sure you really want me to?

I can't speak for him, but just because you have some money, doesn't mean your satsified with that amount.
I don't have money but I know HE does. I'm just saying that he shouldn't take advantage of the popularity of a site if he continues monetizing NamePros. The Internet was meant for free stuff.

No. That's wrong. 100%.

Ron is running this community not for profit. If he wanted to run this forum for profit, he would be charging for registration, and he would have kept the funds generated by DNOA. Instead, he is creating a non-profit corporation to benefit the users in the group.

I too have to disagree. Not sure what you were thinking. Bill Gates is one of the most philanthropic people in the world. If you need to look up 'philanthropic', I suggest a dictionary.

It can't be 100% wrong since you don't know the possible future - and ESPECIALLY since you don't control whether I visit NamePros or not.

Ron is running this community not for profit.
Then why does he sell ad space?

If he wanted to run this forum for profit, he would be charging for registration, and he would have kept the funds generated by DNOA.
That's not the only ways to make money, you know...

Instead, he is creating a non-profit corporation to benefit the users in the group.
That's nice :) I like that ;)

I too have to disagree. Not sure what you were thinking.
And I you.

To pay for resources. Servers cost money, advertising costs money, computers cost money, etc - I think you could figure that out. It is completely possible for a non-profit operation to turn a profit. It isn't like once they've hit their break-even point they shut out their revenue stream.

Yeah, I know.

Still, that's like saying "Hammas" is a charity organization - even though we all know they're terrorists. I'm not saying Bill is a terrorist but he's ... well, let me put it this way. We didn't invite him into the tech world. ;) He kind of butted in. If you want to continue to argue this, I'll grab some resources now...

Did you even read and understand what I posted?

The usergroup would only be for members who wanted to join it.

People that always want stuff for free always make me laugh.

Been here for close to 1 year. I never though the ads were too much and I barley even notice them. I mean is this such a big deal? Let RJ do what he wants, pretty sure he knows what needs to be done. Also I appriciate the staff, never had a problem, plus when some idiot trashed my thread, it was fixed within minutes. :imho: :xf.love:

If you're gonna make a mark in the corporate world, you can't wait for an invitation. I don't mind debating it.

Yes I read it but I think ahead. Who would use that group of their own free will? Not many, if any.

RJ would have to implement it for all non-paid users.

I don't think a paid user-group is necessary, it may only hinder the amount of new members and thus decrease ad revenue because they perceive this as a site in which u need to pay.

I don't know if RJ runs namepros with an intent to profit, or just to provide a great community. I don't care, either way he suceeded in the latter.

To have such an active community obviously uses bandwith and money, if he ends up ahead of his hosting costs every month more power to him. Half the people who frequent Namepros wouldn't know half as much or have such a powerful resource were it not for the hard work of -RJ- and the NP Staff.

Thanks ^

I think it is fine the way it is, if RJ makes a million a month, more power to him, he deserves it, free to join, free to post, free to link your sites in your signature, free namepros auction, free google revshare, and he bears all of the costs of the expansion of namepros as it gets bigger, advertisement helps with covering these costs, dont like the ads dont look at them or click them, personally I think they ad some color to the forum, if he made it a paid forum to cut down on the ads then tons of people would cry they can't afford it and that it should be free, just my opinion on the matter, looks fine to me the way it is.

What kind of poof garb post is this? NamePros losing it's value,I hardly think so! NamePros is still growing in leaps and bounds. What RJ decides to do financially is his business and doesn't effect the comunity in the least. But if you happen to get upset enough to leave by chance,Don't let the NamePros door hit you in the rear on the way out.

Compuxp - I'm sure you've heard more complaints than a dozen .... After all - You are on staff at a site that looks like a Who's Who of banned members from here and the other Domain Forums ;)

Banned members that come back here and Send out 60+ Spam PM's trying to gain more members over there .... (If you got one of those - Sorry folks :( - But be careful of people you do business with over there - I see several shill bidders on the front page everytime I look)

We don't keep an eye on folks unless there's a reason to - We see reason to when peeps constantly Break the rules and lack Ethics overall IMO -

It's not "unjust" or a "power trip" when the rules are there for all to read ... and especially when they've been pointed out to the same people Many Many times ....

PS : Pfffffffffffffft -
