Has anyone else noticed that NamePros is starting to sell out? I see more and more ads every day. I know, you can makea lot of money, but still they are making quite a bit from it. I am not saying I am upset enough to leave I am just sad that NP is losing its value.

Bryan,

I think your comments are way out of line. NamePros has only added 3 ads on the bottom of the page recently. These ads and the ads on the top of the page, are the only ads in which the revenue is going directly to NamePros. With the Adsense ads, Ron generously offers 50% of the impressions to NP members. The new ads on the bottom are not intrusive at all, and frankly Ron deserves every dime he makes from NamePros for the countless hours he puts in on the site. You also have to keep in mind that as the size of the community keeps rapidly increases, more and more servers are going to be needed, which means more and more costs. These 3 small ads can offset the cost of that. Be greatful for what you have, and be glad NamePros isn't swarmed with ads like some other domain forums are...

Your comments are quite ridiculous to be honest. The only addition was the advertising on the bottom and the chatroom sponsorship. It looks like the same amount of ads today as it did yesterday, so how can you say there are more every day. This site uses a huge amount of bandwidth every day and RJ has put his heart and soul into building it from the foundation up...so I don't see what's wrong with helping cover the expenses by a little advertising. If you don't want to see the advertising, then why not pay the expenses every month for RJ???? Don't know how it makes it lose it's value. :|

How much are you paying for your NamePros membership?????? Last I knew NOTHING so the revenue has to come from somewhere. Be grateful for what you have and quit whining. :td:

You know.. I didn't notice a popup ad when I came in or a popunder when I left last time.. and I never even noticed the three extra ads until you mentioned them.. if I HAD noticed them, they'd be a very small price to pay for the free membership and excellent service RJ provides. Not to mention, I've NEVER clicked on an ad here because I DON'T notice them or pay any attention.. so I don't think RJ's getting rich off the ads on display.

On the otherhand, RJ generously provides revenue sharing and I HAVE made a few dollars off that here and there.. I don't begrudge him any advertising he puts on the site. Selling out? I certainly wouldn't call advertising on your site "selling out" in any case.. it's just plain good business.

I don't think this site has too many ads at all, or is losing it's value. This is one of the best places on the net for domain name information. Plus with NameBucks, they even give back. Great people here too, glad to be part of it.

RJ is generous enough to share his Adsense revenue with us, he didn't have to do that you know.

Plus, the hosting for this site probably costs a small fortune per month...

you got no idea how much time and money RJ has put into this site
it has remained free and well kinda "fun" compared to other forums
ITS FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i cant believe your even bringing this up
how about joining the "other" forum and paying a million dollars for access to all the site only for them to make more forums where you gotta pay 3 million dollars for access
RJ has offered revenue sharing on adsense ads where he could have just added his own or used the space for banners and the site will still be as popular as it is now

I wasn't going to reply to this thread, but the word 'sellout' has been gnawing at me since I first read it. To me 'sellout' means putting greed and money ahead of what's really important -- in this case, providing a great community. Have the recent ad changes affected the quality of NamePros?

If you're just tired of looking at advertising, let's discuss futher.

Bryan-

Your right! NO Need for advertising revenue. I like to see you take the same approach with your site. ;) You must not use the revenue share. If you did, you would not say such things.

DITTO!

As for -RJ- being a "Sellout", if that were the case he would have sold to me long ago.

And i'm sure with the extra revenue they generate for him he's not going out and buying $2000 shoes,He's more than likely making it alot better for the members.(better features faster servers etc etc..)

Sellout?

I've said it before. We need a NP smiley that is rolling his eyes. A sarcastic "whatever" reply.

Unfortunately, nobody listens to my smiley dreams around here. They are usually busy talking about increased server bandwidth, forum upgrades, advertising costs, revenue sharing for the members, and stuff like that. Apparently it takes a decent amount of time & money to operate a large community.

Who knew?!?!

^See^ That would have been another place for a rolling eyes, sarcastic "whatever" smiley.

Nobody listens...

Sad

I find it rather offensive towards Ron saying that he's making NamePros a sellout. Expenses need to be covered, and last time I checked, no one in the world has a tree that grows money; it has to come from somewhere. Can you find me one?

The ads are not at all overloaded or disturbing or distracting. I find this thread disturbing to be honest. If you want to start paying $1000/year membership fees, then that's a different story.

I think the smileys you are looking for go something like this;

:| + = :]

I didn't even notice the ads at the bottom...

Now, where IS that eye rolling smiley? :D

As an advertiser myself, one can notice that most of the ads displayed are from NP members themselves!

Not only are they mostly very interesting sites, it also encourages visits in a different way (while financially contributing a little to support this community) instead of continually spamming the for sale advertising sections of the forum. The ads themselves are very unobtrusive (trust me, 99% of forums this size normally would capitalize on the traffic; clearly RJ has shown the complete opposite and is constantly trying to build new, clean, and novel advert programs that would better suit the needs of interested members). Most of the members on NP encourage the introduction of new ad display options, and RJ has been doing a great job in bringing it all together.

Not to mention, if you even bothered to look at the amazingly low rates offered on NP, you'd be astounded compared to ANY other forum of this size... so clearly you're 100% wrong about your assumptions here.

Other domain name forums make up for the enormous hosting cost by charging for memberships, but NamePros is free and there are unobtrusive banner ads that don't get in the way of your visit. I don't know of any forum the size of NamePros that doesn't have some sort of income.

Do research next time you make an accusation like this.
