This may simply me being a little grumpy but I am starting to get incredibly annoyed with the appraisals section. I keep seeing worse domain names popping up post after post. Anyone else want to take a crack at the value of wtfaj.com? I guess what I would like to see is a "premium" domains appraisal section. Where a higher quality domain names would be. $100+, no more of the reg fee appraisals. Am I the only one thinking this? or should I just crawl back into my hole.

umm how are people suppossed to know what their domain is worth without first asking? You are putting the chicken before the egg. If the domain they list is not worth much, just say so - end of problem.

I appreciate what your saying, but I was more annoyed with the blatantly terrible domain names being appraised. I suppose I am more mad at the stupidity of some domainers. Hey, If im the only one who gets annoyed with the silly ones then I'll recant and go back to my hole. Just would like to see some better domains for appraisal, more critical thought involved in appraisals.

I do agree there are a lot of domains that their values are just reg fee, some.. less than reg fee :P

This is why about 60% of the Domain Appraisel threads have 0 replies.

I guess we can't really do anything.. Some people think their domains are worth a lot.

They have zero replies because people are scared to say the obvious or what they feel. If you list your domains you should expect everything from wow - million dollars to $0 and useless. maybe if more people saw just that - honest valuations more often they might not want to list their own.

I guess I can understand your frustration, however, and I speak for myself, I haven't a clue about domains. I recently was awarded a couple of domains as a prize in an NP logo contest and I thought to take advantage of it and start learning about it, maybe....and quite honestly, I would much rather know if it's worth nothing versus not knowing at all.

Someone saying a domain is worth $0 doesn't make it so. Someone saying it's worth $1M doesn't make it so either. You have to gauge who and what to trust, but most importantly realize that no one can perfectly appraise a name, as such, your opinions of the name won't be 100% correct either. The main thing is to glean helpful input from whatever analysis on the name you get

I have to be honest here and say that I am never annoyed at anyone asking my opinion on their names.....

I do however get alittle upset when I give *MY OPINION* which is just that and get abused because its not want they wanted to hear :(

I still say that unless its your typical *golden* name like poker, sex etc, or traffic earners ... Just a name... the $ is in the eye of the holder and the buyer....

I have seen great names (imo) sell for really low prices and others (crapo imo) sell for stupid high prices that I think proves that if you find the *right* end buyer for the *right* name :xf.love: is made .....

We all have to learn and even when we think we have...... we havent :hehe:

My 2 cents.

The one thing that gets me about the apprasial threads, not so
much that their crappy names - some are - some aren't, it's
newbies with 1 post which is in apprasials! or 5 posts which are
also apprasial threads for different names. No community interaction
at all, just straight to the apprasials. Heck at least get to know
the surroundings before using the services and benifits and Knowledge
of our members......geeesh!

Heh, I made a similar post about 3 or 4+ months ago.

That used to really bug me, people just wanting something for nothing, not prepared to give anything back, just here to take take take. Needless to say I don't visit the appraisals section any more and haven't for a long time.

Unfortunate, as I'm sure there's some people willing to give something back, just the majority don't. The ratio was huge, like 10-1 last time I looked, by the time you've gone through all the posts from 1-posters you've wasted a large portion of appraising time.

Oh, and yes, it is a good service to offer people to get new members but when it's being abused by people who don't offer anything back or who bitch and moan at your appraisal, it's really not worth the bother. I mean there's plenty of us who could put in the time and become a part of the community, why shouldn't everyone?

And as Mellow said, it's never impossible to sell a domain, you've just gotta find the right buyer and there's nearly always someone somewhere willing to pay the price be it large or small.

I still like the idea of a separate DNOA appraisals section. At least I know the names are gonna be half decent and most of the people would appraise something for me if I needed it...

My 2 cents anyway

I really believe it is in the eye of the beholder.
I did learn alot when I first started out asking what names were worth----you just never know what someone will pay for a name even if you dont like it.
I posted one of my names several months back and had a few say regular fee and it was too long and stuff but I sold it for $500----you just never know----as long as you like the name

What was the name? Could you shed some light on what steps you took to make the sale? I've got what I like to think as a pretty good portfolio but I'm yet to get any bids.

As to the topic at hand: The appraisals thread is too busy... too many posts - Maybe a reputation requirement of say 2 points before allowed to post on appraisals forum - might encourage some community involvement?

Thanks!

I too don't mind the crappy names, some of them are funny, and they make me feel better about the domains I own :)

I'm not too bothered about the 1-post newbies if they go on to make more posts and contribute, if they don't then that that gets me goat.
What really annoys me are those that post and don't even leave even a simple 'thanks'. Same goes for reviews the webdesign forum.

I am sorta of a fence sitter on this one. I have seen some crapy ones as well. I buy domain names as well as look in the appraisal section(I never have given a real appraisal - I feel to inexperieced or not wanting to be trampled on for my opinion)

But I found in the domains to buy some realllllllll crapy ones for high prices like $100 or higher (when I am thinking maybe $30 tops). I am like "Wow" and "Ouch" or "Geez Not This Again" and sometimes covering eyes and saying "My Eyes They Burn". This is above and beyond an ego trip(the pain, the pain - make it stop plz). But on the other hand, like already said, "whats in the eye of the beholder".

Also, was said; If there is already a premium word in the domain like sex or poker of course it will drive in the crowds or add a few extra zeros behind the $ sign.

And I also agree that people who want their domains to be appraised should have atleast 25 posts and a member for 2 weeks.
