I have several domain names selling on eBay currently, and have had 2 watchers on one of them, as it's fixed price listing, I was just curious why they don't just click, or if the price is too high for them, at least write to me?? :'(

Personally, ebay domain selling isnt my thing. Feel much better doing it on forums etc :)

I also had the same problem as you - someone started watching my auction almost since it was first posted, but I never saw any bids, and, in the end, the domain didn't sell.

I don't really like selling on eBay because it has very tough rules with regards to marketing and promotion of your sales. You cannot e-mail prospective buyers to advertise your sale (not without their explicit content), for instance, which makes it rather tough to promote your sale in the first place.

I did left my contact email, accept offers, etc. So, if they want the domain name, but price is high, please write to me, but never ... - that's what I don't get it.

It's really meaningless to wait for the last minute, since it's not an auction :( I am just trying to figure out what they really want?

In short, what you will find is that people (me included) will watch domain auctions just to see if they will sell at the price they have been set at, rather than have any real interest in aquiring a domain.

Yeah, exactly. Honestly, I don't expect that my domain names to be sold on eBay, I listed them during the promotion, all I wanted is to see my domain names' popularity. But you know, when I noticed that I've got 2 people watching my auction, how excited I was ... Then I wait, wait ... No sold item message, no message from watchers. I just got very frustrated.

There are still few days to go on my auctions, maybe I should be patient, and wait to see how it goes in the last few days.

The other thing to keep in mind is that it is the holidays. People have to spend money on hard goods for gifts and may have to wait to buy something for themselves. Our domain sales on ebay have dropped off significantly but our electronics have skyrocketed.

Most 'watchers' you get are just that -- WATCHERS, not buyers. Most watchers do so just to keep informed of what domains are selling for. They have no interest in buying -- they just want to keep a pulse on the market.

Can you provide a link to your auction?

If you have 3char domains, dont be afraid to sell them on ebay.

if there are watchers, then that means your keywords did generated some interests. If there are no watchers, then it might mean no one is insterested in it.

When you list is as fixed price, make sure to enable the "best offer" feature.

I decided to list CanvasTarp.com on ebay, and talked with several competitors in the business to generate some interest. 1 watcher so far. This is a little bit different than others I have tried at eBay - rather unsuccessfully - where I really did not get the price I wanted.

If you have a canvas tarp shop, this is one of the top domains you could own, so I promoted the idea that this may be the only opportunity they have to see this domain available for generations. Maybe an overstatement, but I think I got my point across.

If it doesn't sell on eBay, I will increase the price, and just park the doggone thing, or point it to my primary tarp site.

My point in posting this is to say that, I think there is a difference on ebay, in just auctioning domains, versus marketing the domain to a niche you are familiar with. Without discussing it with the right people, the auction may be over before anyone in my niche picks up on it. It still may not sell, but I have a chance, at least.

If you want to sell on Ebay there are some basic tips that may help

1) Fixed price listing are for stores !
2) The normal promotion (forums, cold mailing, etc..)
3) Look out for a category that fits the domain name topic (not domain names) and list it there.
E.g. antique watches.ext list it in "domain names" and in "antiques-watches" as another category.
Remember you want to get the end users.
4) Some nice ticky promotion are Google AdWords.
Most of the time the keywords for your domain topic may result surprisingly cheap.
So concidder to spend a 20$ on "antique watches" or "antique watch store" or simillar. And forward it to your auction. (domain should be worth more than 75$ though)
5) Set your auction and to 19.00h in the country that fits best the domain tpoic.

When I watch an auction it's usually just to see if the name will sell at the price the seller has listed. And most of the times I wont place a bid. Could also mean that another ext is avail in the name your selling, and they will buy it If your name sells high IMO of course :)

I agree with what Gene said that most watchers are in fact watchers. Normally, if I am interested in buying something that is up for auction, I will toss in an early bid (just to reduce the chances the seller mights sell it to someone else outside of ebay). I normally do not buy fixed price auctions unless they are very good deals.

Overall, if I am interested in something I will normally bid. If I am more curious about what the final sale price will be I will just watch.

As someone else noted above, make sure you sell fixed price items in your store. This will save you a quite a bit of listing fees. However, you will most likely need to generate traffic to the listing. As someone above stated, using ads from adsense may help.

A thing I have found useful for fixed price listings is to have a "best offer" option. This gives you a better idea of who and how many people are interested in your product. It doesn't mean you might not get your asking price, but it also increases the chance you can sell your item.

I hate to admit it, but I like Ebay for mostly buying. I love getting names (junk) for 99 cents and they have 9-10 months left on them. I then park them or develope and most of the time I get my $ back and then some. A few I have re-regged because they did well. Now when i say well...it means it will pay the reg costs and then some more.

RickyG

I got the following for under $2.00:
1TB.net
Eimage.us
sercureimagehost.com
brewguy.com
gamecheatforum.com
dumbfart.net
ipodcafe.net

Just to name a few.....
