Not necessarily my best hand reg, but an interesting story nonetheless.
In May 2004, I hand reg'd georgewbushlibrary.com through Godaddy for $18 including private registration (can you believe it was still available? - three years after his inauguration?).
In March 2007, I sold it to the Bush Administration (via their web hosting company) for $3,000. Without question (lucky, I know).
In April 2008, it was sold BACK to the administration for $35,000 after this happened:
Developer for George W. Bush library Web site paid $35K to buy back domain name | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Dallas News on Yahoo! | The Dallas Morning News
