Usually the ones that go for more are deals between 2 people, say the domain owner emails people who he/she might think that's interested in the domain etc.

Anyone cares to give us a "Legal" formula to contact companies about domain. I do not want to be viewed as a spammer!!.

eBay can be a good place to sell domains. You quite often get some stupid people who think that names are worth huge amounts and that they can make a profit reselling them and bid them up way past their real value.

Easy, use snailmail. If you write the address on the envelope by hand it might even be less likely to be discarded.

That isn't Very Good Advice :imho: ~ Ebay is actually a Good Market for Wholesale Priced Domains as well as a few Premiums (3 Letter etc ..) Occasionally , and Trying to take advantage of folks will stick with you as long as you try to sell anything ! Remember - If you are Legit- Your contact info shows up somewhere !!

I was, in no way whatsover being illigit! OK, another way of saying what I was saying is this: there is a market at eBay for domain names who sometimes appear to have too much money.

Sorry Zeeble.. this is in no way directed to you and I wasn't replying on this.. I was just asking for e-mail and I thought to mention that I needed it to be legal..

Two types of Ebay auctions for domains.

NR - where you can pick up nice names for a good price
Reserve or Minimum - these are usually ridiculously priced by people on crack.

I agree that Ebay is a buyers market for domains for the most part...with an exception every now and then.

It's all about luck on ebay
Sometimes there are guys that likes your name a lot and bid a high price on it
Yet sometimes even a good LLL.com domain won't have bids higher than mid $xxx :)

Well, I've seen barely interesting domains sell for nice $$ on ebay, but that's not the case with most dn auctions there, Agree 100% about it being a buyer place.

Ebay is a decent place to sell names,I've put my first two on auction and one is sold and the other has watchers,I probably would'nt put a high dollar name on there for auction,Would proly wait it out at sedo,But it's a good place to make a fast buck off a name anyhow.Just my opinion

Putting a domain up for auction and getting high bids from folks who have no clue that the domain is worth much less than they are willing to pay is not immoral, illegit, unethical or illegal. It is simply one market that is definitely open to anyone and it is legit. One cannot control who bids and at what price.

Ebay auctions can be great if you do it right.

Also, you may find this thread usefull.

Snail mail is not the best way to contact all of your prspective buyers. You ahve to keep costs down. Only snailmail those who you might think are likely to buy/bid at a higher price.

I find that ebay has many merits - namely the system that people can trade in. But good names and domainers are dwarfed by unrealistic prices and 'useless' names which people sell who do not have the knowledge of someone on these forums who understands about domain names.

I also find an issue being the fees to list names which may not have a lot of value themselves. This is clearly a % of the cost which makes a difference to the profit made.

I do know of an auction site solely for domainers where they can list names for free, and benefit from all features of ebay.

It's in my sig.

But one thing you have to remember is that ther eis no one domain marketplace that has a significant deal of end-user traffic. Therefore, your likelyhood of only selling a domain for only a fraction of what an nd user would pay is about 95%.

MOst domain marketplaces cater largely to domain traders who buy at wholesale. Afterall, if they would target actual end users who have the money to soend on a good domain name, they would starve to death.

NO matter where you sell your domains, one thing is for sure. If you want to get high prices, you have to be proactive in your domain trading business, meaning, you have to actively seek out potential end-users who will pay your price and let them know that your domain is fo rsale. They are not looking for your domain. They might not even know that they want it until you let them know about it.

I agree with zquest, although there is a very slight chance that someone may stumble on your domain elsewhere.
