We can save this topic for Brad's thread, but in short:

The mistreatment of people, including moderators, needs to stop and the only way we can do that is through restrictions and removals.
Or via open discussion.

Mistreating people shouldn’t be tolerated but silencing those in opposition should also be an option that is off the table.

I agree.

Striped shirt reminding of lumberjack more than domain investor, not cleanly shaved, not a pro setting...
Lol. I had to look very close to see if you were right about me not being clean shaven.

You seem to not get the point that no rules were broken. Quote the rule Elad broke.
None that exists (that I know of), which is why I asked earlier on for the Mods to post a clear directive on this new direction/policy.

The point is that NP is in charge of moderation here. If they ask you to stop doing something, then stop. If you disagree with having been asked, then raise it to the community and/or the moderators in a respectful way so that it can be addressed (and maybe even reversed).

I think that Mods do a great job moderating this forum, but I cannot agree with this decision. What can I say, I love "The Shining" :)

I understand they want the best for the forum, but having the freedom of having an avatar of your choice helps the freedom ambience of this forum, as long as it isn't unpleasant or disrespectful, and I don't think this one was disrespectful or disturbing.

We have to think that the Jack Torrance avatar has been used as the Front Cover for millions of DVD or movie tapes, so it's an iconic screenshot.

Also, I have to say that "The Shining" is a true Masterpiece :)
It includes 3 geniuses in one movie: The writer, Stephen King. The director, Stanley Kubrick and the main actor, Jack Nicholson.

I would like to say also that The Shining movie is a true acting masterclass by Jack Nicholson, and I think also that he is one of the best actors of all times, if not the best. That's my opinion! :)

So, please don't forget that it is just a screenshot of a movie, and not just an average movie... it is a true Masterpiece. :)

The reason professionalism is so important is that it allows us to focus on the actual issue(s) and have a constructive discussion that can lead to positive change. Everything else is only a distraction and makes it more difficult to discuss/consider each side.

Please take a (second) look at the following posts, which are constructive, professional, and respectful:
Opinion from a newbie:

Without individually going for Elad's avatar based on someone's report, team should have announced a notice for everyone that we're working on taking NP to this level (more like LinkedIn or etc).

We request every members follow these instructions to help with our plans. Plus your suggestions are appreciated.

1.
2.
3.

Then nobody would get offended personally.

(Personally, I don't want members like Elad leave us.)

These are only a couple examples that we hope will be more representative of future discussions on NamePros.

@SuperBrander, @karmaco, @Joe Nichols, and multiple others also used professional presentations of their ideas and feelings.

We appreciate that.

First, this is 100% fact, just watched the sequel Doctor Sleep last night. The Shining, top 10 movie for me.

Everybody is unique, I don't think you want a bunch of clones here. People's responses aren't supposed to come in some template form. You overreacted to somebody flagging his avatar. You could just admit the mistake and move on, you're human, people screw up. Then, I'm confused on the community moderation. It seems to jump around depending on the situation. Sometimes you post like it's your way or the highway, then other times, it's up to the community.

71-2 is pretty clear.

At exactly which point did the mod make a mistake? Was it when they politely asked the OP to change avatars? Or was it when they penalized the OP in a reasonable manner for ignoring the request?

The mod made a request to change the avatar and when the member didn't comply the mods erased the avatar on their own. That was the mistake.

The mistake was not telling the person who flagged the avatar it wasn't that serious. Avatar that has been used for awhile now.

Clearly the mod made a request to change the avatar and when the member didn't comply the mods erased the avatar on their own. That was the mistake.
So when requests are ignored, they shouldn't do anything? Then what's the point of having moderators? We may as well all just do and say whatever we want.

It was both. They asked him to change his long time profile pic for no valid reason.
(It was unprofessional, please.)

He declined.

Then they forcefully removed it.

The vote overwhelming shows the community's thoughts on this.

But NP decided, at that moment, that they agreed with the reporting member. NP decided the avatar was unprofessional, which is why Elad was asked to change it.

Who decides if the reason is valid?

The community vote is being made in retrospect, and in reaction to the theatrics of someone who acted as a martyr.

A moderator with a more refined ethical compass would have never presented the question to the member to erase the avatar in the first place.

You asked me what the mistake was, I told you. It's really not the complicated. Mods make mistakes sometimes, they're human. Simple solution would be to correct it and move on.

Who decides what constitutes a "refined ethical compass"?

I can't say anything about the specific avatar in question since it has been removed. I'm not a huge fan of usernames and avatars that represent someone else .. even and particularly if it's an obvious celebrity. After that I'm not too insisting on it being "professional" .. however if it is "unprofessional" then while I'm not sure there should be a rule, I also think that we're trying to be somewhat professionals here. Our industry already has a hard time getting respect, so then if our publicly viewable forum is full of infantile pictures, it's hard to ask others to take us seriously if don't even take ourselves seriously. However I'm not really again unique fun avatars that aren't "business like" .. so long as they are not unprofessional. People should consider it for themselves as well. I was super happy when @WhoaDomain.com finally changed his .. as much as I though I'd still not take him more seriously, I actually did .. lol.

Again .. my comments above are totally generally speaking and NOT in any way directed to @Elad n .. I didn't see the avatar in question so maybe it was totally fine .. or maybe not .. lol. That being said .. NamePros has all the rights to do whatever they want with regards to anything on this forum. That includes closing forum access, deleting data, removing avatars or any other content, as well as reading our private messages. It's a bit concerning considering how anonymous ownership and management is .. but it's something you just have to accept if you want to take part here. Because on the other hand NamePros is a great toll and resource for us all, and I think they do try to make is fair for the most part .. although it's far from perfect I suppose.
