So in my continuing quest to automate everything I reached out to Sedo to get API access. Their response:

Such a nice way to treat customers...I'm sorry buy you're not important enough for us to give you this. Even though there is really no reason to be so restrictive

But having sold a domain though almost every other marketplace bit none though Sedo I can only conclude they are no longer a relevant marketplace and closed my account.

What a great way to ensure continued irrelevance turn away domain listings.

    Thanks @Sedo

I don't see the problem really. Without knowing their architecture and design, I'd venture a guess that giving API access does incur a cost - time, effort, support, and maintenance. Now, this might not be worthwhile for them to make the API self-serve allowing everyone to access their system programmatically. More realistically, I expect that given their platform is fairly ancient (at least looking at their unchanged UI and major feature set), I think the maintenance and security cost outweighs allowing everyone to access it.

I don't think you should treat this as sour grapes. By the way, try to get access to Godaddy API. If you get it, good. If you don't, is the GD auctions and marketplace irrelevant as well?

Did you give a reason why you were requesting access? If so, curious what the reasoning in the request was.

If reasonable, and still denied due to:

    I'd question why.

Is it security? More API access requires additional oversight? Protecting Data?

What constitutes a large portfolio? Are they talking about .com only, or .top as well? Does quality matter?

I mean, you could pool your domains with other domainers if you needed a workaround to obtain a "large portfolio" but what is the metric, and why?

What does high volume of business mean? X amount in dollars? Y in amount of sales?

Additionally, Would you be willing to pay a fee (to compensate them for monitoring/setup/access or whatever justification it may be for)?

Their investments in maintaining the API, keeping it secure, ect. Not unlike the investments they make for their website are mostly fixed, The increase, especially to add a portfolio of a few hundred domains is nominal at best.

It's one thing to not add the ability for everyone to signup. It's another to out right tell someone who specifically asks for access no.

I mean their web interface is horrible, and since I am selling domains though other marketplaces and actively buying my portfolio is always in flux. So the effort to manfully maintain it versus 0 sales for me isn't worth it. I would have automated it because that's mostly an upfront investment in time without much ongoing. And perhaps keeping things automatically synced I could keep it better up to date and add BIN prices which may have actually performed better on their platform but we will never know.

The point is there is no reason to prevent someone from seeking API access from getting it. API traffic is less load on their servers compared to web traffic, more readily updated inventory with BIN prices is more buyer-friendsly which increases the chance to selling.

I also recently requested API access to Dan.com, their respponse what much more reasonable, after telling me they usually only provide it for portfolios of 10k plus domains, thry asked me why I wanted API access and after telling them they granted it anyway...no reason Sedo couldn't do the same bnesides they just don;t care.

What are you trying to automate with Sedo?

The domain import/add tool is very easy to use, is there another feature you are specifically focusing on?

They provide their API only for registrars - to use their parking backend and to auction expires.

p.s. From my understanding, you MUST have at least SedoPRO status to request API access.

Their interface is horrible. A pain to be sure. Its too much effort to keep thing manaully in sync while it has not yelded anything for the work. Their interface imo is worst than afternic's.

Quite frankly its not worth my time but if it could be automated that would be a different story.

But its not so i simply closed my account. Because quite frankly its not worth fighting with their horrendous interface to keep my listings up to date for the one marketplace that has yet to held any sales or offers. Also without automation id have to leave everything as make offer. One of the main advantages of automating is i can but BINs everywhere and leverage automation to remove a listing in real time when it sells on another marketplace.

I'm not sure where you got that information from but it dosen't sound right. Their support said its avalible on request (so long as you are an important enough customer to them)

SedoPRO accounts have access to API, confirmed by Russian domainer (SedoPRO member).
    Just found his article (2012).
So all is as I have said above.

No offense but 2012 is quite old. Also it could equally be true that they get api access and what sedo support said that it can and user can request it, also be true. 🤷‍♂️ But moral of thr story is being able to request it won't work unless @Sedo deems you important enough.

their import tool is a nightmare

they haven't changed anything after implementing it
and it was done by someone in a hurry ( must be )

why @Sedo can't you ignore domains that are in my account already
    same is true for @Afternic

    heck just ignore them

and why is "Buy It Now" default in sedos import tool
    yes you -sedo- want it
    but I don't want it

it forces me to uncheck it every time I enter new domains
which won't sell anyway at sedo

what I want is as little clicks as possible
    when using an interface

To summarize: SedoPRO members and Sedo Partners are API eligible.

This. Exactly. Its so frustrating to use. And as i am always buying and selling names I'm stuck using it too much. And with no sales, bot even a low ball offer. Every other marketplace I've used has yielded at least a low ball offer or two with ar least 1 sell though most.

I'm not the only one to notice a lack of sales though Sedo, they just aren't a relevant player anymore as a marketplaxe it seems. And making it difficult to list inventory won't help with that.

At least with Afternic I can have a system to generate a csv file and upload it. Keeping it up to date involves all of a couple minutes a day to upload a new csv.

    Hi

seems rash to close account, just because you didn't get access
been using them without api since forever...

    and I have sedopro account
so, apparently it wasn't a necessity

    just saying....

    imo….

    The documentation is here: https://api.sedo.com/api/apidocs/API_Member/

So perhaps if you contact support and request it you'll be deemed worthy...just curious what did it take to get to be a sedopro?

Not sure how to stop using a marketplace where effort in > results out is rash....seems like good time management to me

    Hi

    what effort you talking about?

all you have to do is list your domains, and you done.

    then,
you can go do something else and forget about it..... until or unless you get an email about offer or notice of payment for parking revenue.

when you go to dan, you still got to list
you go to afternic, you still got to list

where ever you go, even if you go nowhere and build your own, you still got to list them on the website.
so, the effort part, is part of it

    imo...

Listing domains using their interface is slow and arduous. Plus you forget about updating pricing and deleting domains sold outside of Sedo.

Nope, they got an API which they have given me access to. Everything listing, updating, deleting is all automated.

Yes but no.I can keep my portfolio up to date by uploading 1 csv file each day (and really I don't have to do it each day unless there's been a change) which I can have a script automatically generate.

Same with the Epik marketplace, can be done via API.

And my own website thats the ultimate control.

Plus, you forget its not just about the effort. It's about the effort in relation to sales. Sedo is high effort with no sales (for me at least). Other platforms have performed much better for me and are lower effort too.

Personally I have no problems with their import tool. I also pre-verify all of my domains through the "A" record via my host using their API.

That's why I asked what the OP is trying to do.

Maybe the Sedo API is not where OP should be looking
