.tv Sedo - Premium Renewals not Disclosed

There are currently 18 .tv names in Auction at the moment on Sedo which was a pleasent surprise when I looked:

http://www.sedo.com/search/searchresult.php4

However, what is extremely disappointing is that there are some names currently being auctioned, that are Premiums, and there is absolutely no mention at all of the annual Premium Renewal fee.

This was briefly discussed in a thread not so long ago. It is ok IMO not to disclose information that is readily obtainable from whois (such as expiry date), but not to disclose the Premium renewal fee of a domain is misleading at best.

Furthermore, it is the total responsibility of the seller to disclose because as a potential buyer eNom will not disclose to you. I know enough to send an email to a seller asking the question, but what about the person that knows nothing about the "quirks" of this extension.

I totally agree. This lack of oversight by Sedo (allowing unscrupulous sellers to list premium .TV names without disclosing the renewal prices) is disappointing and could potentially have a long-term negative effect on the resale values of all .TVs, including non-premium domains.

These auctions should not be allowed to continue until the premium listings are updated with the annual renewal rates.

Agree with both of you, I also noticed it and some premium listings are now even in auction. In my opinion, it's 'unethical' not to disclose the premium fees, especially as there is no way for a potential buyer to look the fees up.

Selling for example a $1,000 premium name while the buyer is unaware is just asking for problems after the sale and will give .tv a bad name as well.

Right on Smash! That's why you're the Queen for Domainland :)

Unfortunately; Sedo must put a system in place to police the Court Jesters.

This simple addendum to their TOS would be a nice start: "users that fail to disclose .TV premium renewal prices in their auction descriptions are subject to having their listings removed from the system and/or their accounts terminated".

Hopefully, the premium names currently on auction will be updated by Sedo to include the premium renewal fees once this issue is brought to their attention.

at this time, is tv the only one with premium renewals?
there are some extensions with high fees, isnt there? isnt like .tm $100.00 or something?
i agree too, that should be part of the listing that you fill in and should show down by visitors, make it just a mandatory box to fill out-
now, it take a just a minute to add a box to a form, but i am sure sedo will need a few months to get the tech support on it :)

Hereos, you bring up a very good point. I personally think Sedo should create a listing form for their domains to include registrar, renewals, etc and other info that must be filled up prior to an auction release. This should be mandatory for every extension. They should even go as far as doing this for domains listed for sale. It is a pain to the seller but well worth it in terms of buyer default. Just my two cents.

As are all mine. :)

I do think Sedo need to have a look at this, it is obvious by this that we can't leave it to the seller to disclose the price, so something should be done to ensure all potential buyers are aware of what the renewals are.

There are quite a few cctlds that use a tiered system for their domains. Albeit they are not as close to the popularity of .TV. so no one really pays any attention. .MD has certain names that are $500 reserved premiums and so does .CD, I have computers.cd - Computer.cd is a premium name reserved by the registry. I am sure there are a few others as well. :)

So yes it would be extremely helpful to have the renewals listed. :)

The other problem is that the industry and many domainers use the term "Premium" to describe what they consider to be a quality name in what ever extension. It is now regularly used in description of .com's as part of the sales pitch.

Smash mentioned it in her post, but I think that .tv has the only Premium Renewal Fee structure.

The difficulties become obvious when you consider this:

At the moment, asianetwork.tv is on at Afternic Bazaar. The description reads: "Premium domain name where the .tv extension is applicable to the subject matter".

Now I have no idea whether this is a Premium (I suspect not) but if it is, whats the Premium Renewal fee?

EDIT: Thanks DA - was writing this when you posted :)

Actually .MD and .CD have premium pricing stuctures as well.

This problem is further complicated by the fact that many buyers may not realize the premium renewal fee until many months after buying the domain, once the renewal period finally rolls around.

The buyer then realizes what happened and requests a refund. The auction house tries to contact the original seller. The seller can't be reached and the buyer receives an email like this:

"We're sorry to inform you that we were unable to contact the seller and your refund cannot be processed at this time."

I think this could create some serious legal exposure for auction companies, a loss of confidence in the marketplace, and a bad name for .TV.

It is not a premium Heroes. I think enom goofed when they removed the ability to see what the renewal was on .tv domains. I can't even tell what they are on my domains (other than receipts) via the control panel as it says... "Contact Customer Support to Renew this Name."

Enom and Sedo need to fix a few issues IMHO.

I suggest we all contact Sedo to inform them, otherwise the buyers are going to get screwed if not aware of the premium pricing.

A few landmines currently on live auction:

Med.TV = $3000/Year
Woman.TV = $1750/Year
Bad.TV = $1000/Year

All of these names have bids. Is it possible that some of the current bidders don't know about premium .TV renewals? Yep.

Med.tv has approximately 21 hours left, 44 bids, and the current price is $3,100.

NPer's may recall that this name went to a Sedo Auction back in May this year, again without any mention of the Premium Price renewal and sold for $13,359 (9,900 Euros). It did not settle though - notice I use the words that it "sold" but did not "settle".

Here are 2 NP links:

http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/329053-another-nice-sale-med-tv-finishes.html?highlight=med.tv

http://www.namepros.com/tv-marketplace/326463-med-tv.html?highlight=med.tv

In the second link, MillersCrossing posts that there is no mention of the Premium Pricing and there should be.

IMO there is a very strong probability that the winning bidder did pay for the name; the funds were placed in Sedo's escrow a/c; and when the buyer requested that the name be transferred to a Registrar other than eNom then that is when it was discovered that the name was indeed a Premium of $3k a year and cant be transferred. The buyer then legitimately pulls out (does not reneg).

The same seller puts the name (and others) up again on Sedo and again no mention of Premium Pricing.

Thanks for the update Heroes!

It's very disappointing that these auctions have been allowed to proceed.

We're talking about some great .TV names, no doubt, but I think that the auction participants deserve to have this important information disclosed to them before making their bids. :'(

Those 3 names he was unloading at namepros for a few weeks. A lot of PM but no one jumped inn.

I did a reply a few weeks back on this and disagreed on it. I said it up to the buyer or auction place to do this.

Now reading above I completly understand and my view points have changed. I still fill a domainer should research this either way. But that's just me. But your all right above.

Not to change topic and get off .tv I didn't realize .CD had this in place. Thanks for info
