Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

You can easily send a domain to auction if someone places an offer for one of your domains on their site. If you push to auction, then the domains starts at that offer and acts as if the reserve has been met at that price.

Someone has to place an offer to one of my domains so that the auction begin ?

If you have a really premium one word domain, you can also request that the name go into auction manually.

How do I request an auction to start manually ?

FreshDrop.net only reads domain names that are On Auction at Sedo from my understanding.

What do I have to do to appear on Freshdrop ?

And a final question ...how do I increase my chances of selling a domain thought Sedo marketplace ?

Yes, once someone places an offer then you can choose to push to auction, there isnt any other way really unless you have a really premium domain.

Help please! I am a newbie and have parked my domain at Sedo. I have entered this domain based business only 3 weeks ago. Two days ago I recieved an email from Sedo saying my account has been banned. I have not done any illegal promotion to recieve this ban. Can someone please help me? I contacted their customer care. However, I have not recieved any response.

Thanks in advance!

There are three ways to get your domain into an auction at Sedo. The first is to get an offer, and push the domain to auction. For the other two, see your second question below.

I have created a site at www.PushToAuction.com where you can list domains you want to push to auction at Sedo, the only catch is you have to be willing to start the auction after receiving a $60 bid. At the time of this post the site has started 418 auctions, 414 have already closed resulting in $125,008 in sales for the community.

You can apply for the GreatDomains.com auction. You do this buy going to "Domain Management", checking off the domain you want to apply for, selecting "...apply for Premium Auction" in the drop-down at the bottom of the page, and clicking the "Execute" button. The final way is to contact an account rep and ask for them to manually start a no-reserve auction for you. Unless your domain is valuable these options aren't very likely.

just an update. PM to the sedo here worked, now I have the domain added.
nice.

you cannot pull out of an auction (I am not implying that you would) ... I think what you are seeing is only the negotiation activity for that domain in the "Offers you have made" category

there should be another entry for that domain in "View Transactions" category ... this will also have a "Delete Negotiation" button (if you want to erase the transaction reference) but only after the transaction is completed (paid and received domain ... or ... transaction cancelled by SEDO)

I finally figured what is causing the sudden upsurge in traffic in my what were once 'quiet' domains parked at Sedo: They were all BOTS!

During the height of the traffic upsurge in my Sedo-parked domains, I quickly re-pointed the domains to my webhost so I can check the logs myself. They were all kinds of bots and crawlers - cuil, etc.

I'm not sure why Sedo counts bots as "unique visitors"? Do all parking sites do the same tally? Otherwise it would be misleading to just look at the unique visitors counter at Sedo and believe that you are getting lots of traffic from actual humans.

10,000 domains, and they weren't parked until now? With an average cost of $7 per year renewal fee that a $70,000 a year loss. (I can buy houses for that...) I'm curious what exactly is your business model that allows for that kind of loss? How much traffic are you expecting on another 1000 new registrations? (new registrations rarely get traffic)

Not to be overly pessemistic, but that little sense that tingles when a door to door salesman comes by is litterally buzzing after reading the op's post. I get the feeling I need to hide my wallet...

Hi Michael,

Please understand that this is a violation of our Terms of Use, Rules for Domain Sellers:

"Submitting Offers for Your Own Domains

Self-bidding undermines trust in the Sedo marketplace and is strictly prohibited. Self-bidding is the deliberate act of placing bids on your domains, the domains of your family or friends, or any offer otherwise submitted without the intent to follow-through should your bid be accepted, to artificially raise the price of a domain and is not allowed. To avoid the appearance of being involved in this activity, family members, friends, and individuals living together, working together, or sharing a computer should not bid on each others’ items. "

Our Legal Department has already been informed of this website, and we ask that you do not participate in such activity, as your account may be subject to suspension of our services.

I think that you missed the point of pushtoauction.com. It is not in any way asking anyone to bid on their own name or soliciting people to bid on a name without following through with the transaction. The point of pushtoauction.com is that you can list any name you are willing to sell over the Sedo system for $60 or more. No name gets pushed to auction without a legitimate offer of $60 or more. Then when the name gets sent to auction, the seller must sell at the finishing price.

So, it is just a place where you can list your names and tell people "If you make me a $60 offer I will send it to auction on Sedo and you can take your chances there. I will not counter higher."

This seems kind of similar to when I get an email offer and we come to a mutually agreeable price, and I tell the person that I will be willing to complete the transaction on Escrow.com or on Sedo.com. If they choose Sedo, then I assume they will use Sedo to make the offer we agreed upon and that we will complete the transaction using Sedo's secure escrow system.

I don't think that it is a violation of Sedo's policies, unless people abuse the system and do not follow the rules of pushtoauction.com, but I am not a lawyer. As it is now, they do not condone shill bidding.

Full Discolure: I have never used pushtoauction.com

Hi Joe,

To submit domains for any Premium Auction Event, visit the Domain Management section of your Sedo account. Check off the the check box to the left of the domain. From the dropdown menu below you domain list, select "Apply for Premium Auction Event" and you will be brought to the application page.

Stephanie,

I'm not sure where you are getting your information from. I worked directly with Mark Klein (Director of Business Development) and Tom Fell (North American Risk Management Coordinator) when the site went live. I helped Tom track over 200 auctions that were started from the site in an effort to determine if there was a higher rate of non-completed sales when the buyer found the Sedo listing through my site. He was not able to find any significant difference between finding the Sedo listing through my site and finding it through Sedo's search, and they both gave me the green light to keep the site up.

I find it extremely hard to believe that your legal department decided the site violates Sedo's TOS, yet I have never been contacted by them to take the site down, and my Sedo account is still active. Also, it plain and simple doesn't violate the TOS. Listing on my site is no different that setting a $60 price expectation to solicit a bid that allows you to push it to auction. It is simply a place to make buyers understand that if they submit an offer, you aren't going to counter with $100k like most Sedo sellers do. They understand you will start an auction cheap and let the market decide the price. Listings are posted anonymously, and buyers would actually be happy to win at $60. It couldn't possibly be more abuse-proof.

In fact, I would go as far as to say that my site prevents people from asking friends/family to submit a bid for their domain, because with my site they can actually find a qualified buyer should the domain not receive any more bids, and it requires less effort for the seller.

I would appreciate you letting me know, either by PM or in the thread, under what authority you are speaking for Sedo regarding its stance on my site, especially considering I have the green light from the director level. Also, what is your title at Sedo? Thank you.

Michael

Important security advice from Sedo!

We have been informed that due to a security problem at one of our competitors a list of their customer data including plaintext passwords is currently circulating on the web including relevant hacker forums.

Our Security and Compliance Team has found several of our own customers matching the publicly available list. Due to the seriousness of this matter combined with the possibility that you might be using the same login data/password at more than one parking company, we strongly suggest you to change your password at Sedo.

Sedo uses cryptographically unbreakable ciphertext for password checks and does not store your password in plaintext. This, and a variety of other security measures, ensures that your Sedo account is always safe from third parties.

We generally recommend to always use different login IDs for different sites and never hand out login IDs to any third party.

Kind regards,

-Stephanie

Thank you for your help putting me in contact with your legal counsel. I just wanted to give you and everyone else an update that the Cheif Operating Officer and General Counsel for Sedo cleared us to keep running the site and to promote it on the forums.

As long as it remains clear that Sedo does not own/operate/endorse the site, and that buyers should only make offers if they will complete the sale, everything is good to go.

Thanks again.
