Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

Can anyone tell me why I have a domain on Sedo that has been sitting for 4 days and hasnt been verified yet?? Usually it takes 5 minutes once you set the name servers. Ive set the name servers, and it still hasnt gone through after 4 days!

Their service is really slow mainly in the last couple of months. Even for winning auctions, they take 72-96 hrs to send payment request to buyer that even after asking for payment status.

Even last week i had submitted few names to their travel auction and all domains status currently showing as domain not for sale, so three days back i have asked for an update, but no response and now weekend.

so only choice is use their contact option, keep asking for updates. Due to their regular delay in verifying ownership, many occasions i set server to any other parking company and once verified then change same to sedo one.

Erdinc- Very interesting. There are several angles that I was not aware of. Thanks!

This happens sometimes. Most of the time they will eventually be processed. If it goes on for weeks email the staff.
Sometimes the naughty word filter will snag something innocent.

I think the delays are many times due to the name being listed in somebody else's account. If the domain servers were already pointed there, I think they send a verification request or manually check whois which takes them forever.

I try to point my nameservers at sedo before I list the names. That gives sedo an "almost instant" confirmation that the name belongs to you. If I submit 30 names, 25 might be listed immediately and 5 might get hung up in the "approval" process. After four or five business days has passed I send them a note and they push them on through.

That's been the routine for me for three or four years.

Sorry but I don't follow the last half of your statement.

[told the sales assistant to relist the name for sale after two weeks of non payment (that's clear)]

[i also said to pass on i have renewed the name]

Is that PASS as in "pass it on" or as in "skip it."

Excuse my density.

I'm interested in what happens to sellers who refuse to push/transfer the domain.

i bet there are more non payers than non sellers

You're probably right, but it's frustrating when you are the one that gets "taken."

i offered the requested amount of a domain at sedo and when after a week went by i contacted the owner via whois and asked why didn't you take the offer, it was at you requested amount ?

replied saying that he had forgotten to update the price , then doubled the amount , i didn't buy at that point

Normally they eventually get banned. I've recently been in a situation where the seller refused to transfer the domain. The domain (and presumably the seller) have vanished from Sedo.

sedo commision

what is the minimum
commision (and all the fees) for a 50$
domain sale in sedo ? i reside in
srilanka . is there a
minimum commision of 50$
( per a domain sale )
for every seller outside
US and canada ?
sedo says ,
Pay NO minimum
commission for most
TLDs when your domain
is parked with Sedo and
sells for a fixed price!

is this
applicable for any seller
outside US/ CANADA.
after a domain sale
can a seller push a
domain to a buyers ac
without transfering
from registra to
registra (in sedo) ? In a domain
transfer who pays the
transfer charge ?
Buyer or seller ?

If you set a fixed price, and your domain is also parked at Sedo, then you pay only 10% of sale price for gTLDs. You can find the list.

Otherwise minimum commission is $50, and that is too much!

Sedo will not let you list a domain for less than US $60. The commission on $60 is $6 if the domain is parked at Sedo, has a fixed price (price expectation or minimum bid do NOT count) and has been parked for at least one month. Otherwise the minimum commission is $50 for Com and the most common extensions. I expect the commission on .LK domains will be $100 or even $150, and no discount if parked. I do not think Afternic has such rules. If you use Euros or British pounds these numbers differ.

Except the variation between the Dollar, Pound and Euro I do not think there is a difference between countries that the seller is from.

if all the terms I list above are met then yes. "No minimum commission" does not mean free - it means 10% commission, not the $50 - $150 you pay if you don't meet the above terms.

They both push and transfer, also push to a Sedo owned account, which is best. Seems they suggest the push, if the buyer wants their own registrar they allow that. The buyer has paid the transfer fee when this has happened to me, indeed Sedo instructs them to go to their registrar and start the transfer, the only way to start a transfer at a registrar is to pay for it. Sedo has once or twice required that I renew a domain that had very little time left.

All this does not mean much. If you want to make money in domains you need to price your domains at a business level - $500 each and more. At this price there is no difference between the fixed price and the minimum commissions. It takes work to find domains that have a reasonable chance to sell for $500, but those are the only ones worth registering. Remember most domains sit for years before an end-user buyer shows up.

Of course domain flippers have a different business plan, but I do not recommend newer people try flipping in this economy.

Someone may have already posted this but I'll say it anyway ... just in case.

To the best of my knowledge here's the deal with parking your domain at sedo and receiving the 10% fee. I was told by a Sedo employee that the parked site has to have had at least one visitor and it may have also been that the visitor had to make a Click through, not sure about that part but it makes sense.

If I purchase a domain and plan to post it for sale on sedo, I change the name servers immediately after the purchase.

Good luck with sales !!!
