Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

Thanks for the help... I just am amazed at some people getting offers within days or even hours! I assume that is enduser sales only?

Yesterday-Worst day ever for parking income by a long way!

And Sedo, how about replying to my 2 pm's and the question in the thread regarding the recent ridiculous Great Domains IDN  sale.

1)Re-parking last two weeks have been absolutely dreadful.

2)Still no reply to my five pm's and various posts-surprise! :p

3)Configuration tool not working again

Once again sedo is dragging their a$$, added 2 names to my account on the 24th and they are still pending verification... hello? a simple whois check is all it takes to show I am the current owner. No excuse for such a long delay.

What I hate most is I bet I will receive that domain verification email and I will simply reply with a link to whois like I've done over and over and over again... do they know they can check ownership of a domain via whois... seems they don't.

There is no need to wait for their email. You can answer as if you received the verification email. It works.

no, is "friendly bids" :gl:

have a partner put a bid on your domains after getting them in a expiration/drop house, and you're on...

Why are the "this name may be for sale" ads so far down on the parking pages? Seems like we all miss potential end users to this placement. If an uninformed potential buyer comes to the page, they may not see that its for sale, and leave disappointed that someone else is using it.

Anyone agree? Any workarounds for this?

Yes, you are right and the solution I have found is to forward the domain to the page that opens when you click the "this name may be for sale" link. Remember to include your affiliate id because you will get a small commission from your own sale.

These are the links that you need to forward to:
English: http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=example.com&partnerid=52527&language=e
French: http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=example.com&partnerid=52527&language=fr
German: http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=example.com&partnerid=52527&language=d
Spanish: http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=example.com&partnerid=52527&language=es

Replace the domain and the partner id with your own data. If the domain is for instance German then forward to the German page.

Notice that this forwarding method is not good for low price domain sales. Let's say you sell the domain for $200. If the domain was parked you would pay %10= $20 seller fee. But because the domain is not parked you will end up paying $50 fee. The price list here:

http://sedo.com/uk/about-us/price-list/?tracked=&partnerid=&language=e

For domains that are priced higher than $500, forwarding doesn't make a difference in fees. If the domain is priced at $500 or higher and there is no parking revenue, you should definitely forward the domain to its listing page. I don't do forwarding if the sale price is under $400. Also I almost always use fixed price sales and keep dropping the price every few months until the domain sells. If it doesn't sell, I let the domain drop.

Edit:
I have seen people using a shorter version of &partnerid=12345&language=d to make the link look tidier. It looks like something like this: _12345_e__ but I can't find any information anywhere on the sedo site. How does this shorter version work exactly?

Use the "Lite" template which has it at the top and in my experience is the best template anyway.

yep, SEDO is lousy in that aspect. lack of care with clients needs because that would be something that could be easily fixed.

maybe using the technique that Frank Shilling was using in some of his parked domains like:
http://www.eatingdisorders.com/

host the page on your server, create a frameset, put the top selling bar on the first frame and a link to your parked domain at SEDO on the second.

caution: SEDO may not like this :gl:

Has anyone been successful with sedo's domain brokerage service?
If not what is better?

The .co auction is set to take off soon. I wonder if Sedo will stagger the finish times of the names? We all remember the .mobi fiasco! Will history repeat itself?

I wasn't around for that...Can you please tell me?

Also How do you think the sales of the .co's will do?!

@tonecas, SpareDomains, Erdinc:

Thanks for the suggestions on solving the "this domain may be for sale" thing. Going to try a couple of solutions and get back to you with thoughts.
Thanks thanks!

Sedo was given three sets of 100 Mobi domains to auction by the registry, including many major premiums. The third set, like the others, was to conclude all lots at the same time. However Sedo's servers crashed before the end. Some notices of winning bids were sent out, but Sedo and DotMobi decided to restart the auction later that same day. Many bidders did not know, and new bidders arrived.

So there were TWO winners of some of the domains.

The results included Music.Mobi for about $700,000 and several others in six figures.

In many cases both winners demanded the domain, threats of lawsuits flew. After months of negotiation a resolution of most of the issues was found, but Mobi had deeply damaged its' core of domainer support. Sedo III (as it is often called) was both the high point and the start of the fall of Mobi prices.

I am thinking this was Fall, 2008 - someone correct me if not.

I think some .co's will sell for modest prices and become worthless within a year.
