Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Like to see SEDO give users the ability to see parking stats and even handle domain sales via smartphone apps.

I have been saying for years that they need a mobile site - everyone else has one. I was unable to carry on bidding in an auction because their site is not suitable for use on phones - so we as sellers are losing money because Sedo are unwilling to have a mobile site. What is the problem at Sedo?

Crap domain. It's a shame this is what sedo has reduced to.

I submitted quite a handful of quality domains than this but all were rejected.

This is really bad.

Who approve names for auction? They need to have their heads checked.

Something is very wrong at Sedo Great Domains Auctions. The mere fact that no one from there will comment on these posts speaks volumes. They do not care.

I hope someone builds a competing platform soon. Its cant be rocket science.

........Then I removed all my BIN prices because I don't want a BIN coming via Go Daddy that will cost me 20% commission.
*
What I do to avoid 20% fees on BIN domains is I set the same BIN price on both Sedo and Godaddy, that way regardless if it sells on Sedo or Godaddy its just 10%

:)

Above statements are confusing. If I offer on Sedo for a BIN price, isn't the same exact BIN price shown on GD and if a buyer purchases via GD don't I still pay 20%? What scenario allows a 10% fee when purchased via Sedo?

Could someone give more details on how poster Lennco is setup so that "...if it sells on Sedo or Godaddy its just 10%"

It's quite simple. Yes, if you list it on Sedo, it will also appear on Godaddy auctions. It costs you 20% because when Sedo lists it on Godaddy and someone buys it on Godaddy, Godaddy gets 10% and Sedo also gets 10% since it was Sedo that placed the listing. However, if you place the listing on Godaddy yourself, when someone buys it on Godaddy, only Godaddy gets a 10% commission and Sedo gets nothing.

Just list them separately on both Sedo and GD...that's it.
By doing that you turn off the MLS they share.

got it. thanks. I mistakenly thought that Sedo BIN fee was 20% rather than 10% so now it all makes sense.

Never made a sale with Sedo. would llike to know from those with sales experience with them, does it matter if one fills out the sales profiles page for each domain?

I mean based on your sales history with sedo would you say filling out the description on the domains sales profile page makes a difference or not

Good names sell for themselves.
End users will look for them and find them, no matter where they are parked.

No, not in my experience.

The only time I might add some info is if we are talking about an old domain. I will write when it was first registered and that an old domain can be an advantage with regards to SEO.

If the buyer is an end-user, they may not know how to check a domain's age.

I don't think end users care about "domain age"

Like to see Sedo add the ability to Tweet out domains that are listed on Sedo.
Namerific and Flippa does it, its a cool tool to use.
Its quick and easy.

I agree, this would be a nice feature. I know and handful of domainers that have picked up quality domains by following the right users on Twitter.

I refuse to list at $99 start for some of the names they suggest $99 for. I did so for 2 domains over the past year and they sold for guess what????? $99 less their fee and I lost money on those sales. Never again.

Especially since the $99 suggested names are usually appraised by Sedo at $699, $999, and higher. Its almost a joke and a slap in the face. If Sedo values a name at $699 then why does its suggest $99 to start? Why not $499 or even $399? Their entire auction process is a joke.

I have a domain "'element".net , it was accepted into Great Domains auction with a reserve of $499 by SEDO .

two month later, i tried to list it with a 499 euro reserve for a GDA and it came back to me saying that the reserve should be 99 euros or less. When i tried to list it with $499 reserve, it didnt work. Strange people indeed

Another one today rejected for 1/2 of their suggested selling price of 1999. They didnt even want it to start at 999, instead they said it should start at 99. No way.

But what is even worse is that parked domains are randomly losing settings. All of my domains listed have advertising turned on. I do random checks and find that some no longer show ads. Also, the same thing with the templates -- they change for no reason at all. I set them up as having one template and random checks will reveal that they've changed. Keywords get erased from time to time... Its very scary to think that you dont even have control over your domain listings at Sedo.

Because an aged domain can be an advantage with regards to SEO (Google rankings), it can be an extra selling point. But I don't think someone buys a domain just because it is old...

Great thread. Loads of information and insights for individuals like myself who are new to using Sedo.

Maybe some frequent sellers can provide some current information on what kind of commission sedo takes off domain sales (under $500, and over $500) - I read that the percentage was increasing.

Maybe some namepros vet domain sellers can provide insights on 1. selling domains direct to end user
in comparison to using a service like sedo. Is it worth using the service and losing a percentage? do they help overcome the hurdles.

Cheers!

20% commission is ridiculous. This is robbery and I am no longer taking part in this.
