Search Engine Ranking help ?

Hi all,
I have designed my first website and I want to do all from my side so that it will perform best for the keyword. As it is a single word website. The thing is Is there any file or files which we need to place in the root folder (where we host )of the website for better ranking and good performance in SE Ranking. If so please share it with me .As I have said it is my first website and anything is welcome.

Two files you should have which won't GIVE you great rankings but, if used properly, will help ...

.htaccess (assuming you're on an Apache server) - If nothing else, make sure you use this to permanently redirect ("301") the "www" form of your website name to the non-www or vice-versa. If you use Google webmaster tools you can tell Google which version you want them to use, but having both out there still isn't a good thing.

You can also use .htaccess rewrite functions to map dynamic url's with lots of parameters to more seo-friendly file names.

robots.txt - if there's anything you DON'T want the search engines to crawl, you can use this to tell them so. Note that this won't keep scrapers or rogue bots away.

You should do some directory submission, forum posting, blog commenting, blog posting, article submission, press release submission, social bookmarking to increase traffic. :D

Page structure is very important. Be sure to use heading tags, bolding, underlining etc. Don't stuff those keywords though!

Not necessary that you have to place a file to root folder and it helps on your ranking. Make your content a genuine one, and if google find it interesting and as a fresh content, they will give a good ranking.

1) go to http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ and place your domain as the "starting url."
2) go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and sign into "webmaster tools."
3) follow the instructions to verify your site and add a sitemap.
