In the thread "Big TV networks are enthusiastic about .tv" we're talking about the fact that the big TV networks are choosing .tv for more and more of the websites of their tv channels and tv shows. It's always essential to have these big players on board when building a solid TLD.

In the thread ".tv is taking the world by storm !", we're talking about the fact that more and more video sites and Internet-only tv channels are being developed all over the world. It's essential to see the truly global appeal of .tv, which is used in just about every country, every language and every niche.

And finally, in the last part of this little "thread trilogy" (lol), I would like to show you the little research I've made about the fact that more and more established satellite TV channels are choosing .tv for their main websites too. That's an essential part too, as millions and millions of people are watching TV and getting aware of .tv through the websites of these channels that are promoted on TV.

In the first post of this thread, I've tried to list all the satellite TV channels here in the UK which currently use a .tv domain for their main websites. There are currently 52, which is quite a large number, especially as I haven't listed the adult ones (Namepros isn't an age-restricted forum). I'll do similar posts about satellite TV channels from other countries in the next posts in the days/weeks to come. :)

Great find! Thanks for sharing :)

Increasing corporate end user adoption -> Increasing general net user adoption -> Creation of more end users for .TV -> ultimately, lively domain reseller market.

As always, you're being impatient, Mike. ;)

This is all about building a new TLD. As you know, .com has been there for 23 years and .tv has only started to become mainstream very recently, over the past 2 or 3 years.

I think it's absolutely huge that there are already 52 tv channels in the UK alone (I'm not even talking about any of the other countries) that are using .tv domains for their main websites.

What does it mean ? The general public is seeing .tv being promoted on screen, they go to these .tv sites and become fully aware of .tv as a major extension.

This increase in .tv awareness takes time but it's getting there, thanks to all this corporate enduser adoption.

As Steven explains brilliantly above, this leads to an increase in net user adoption, which leads to the creation of more endusers of .tv, more tv channels and other companies wanting to use .tv for their websites.

That's precisely the point of this thread, as this is exactly what will enable us, .tv domainers, to have more sales in the future, because of a livelier reseller market, linked to this increase in .tv endusers. :tu:

Michael, thank you for posting! I think what it comes down to is that we are all victims of Madison Avenue, and that the advertising will really suck people into tv. So, lets all hope for big advertising bucks in the UK! It seems to be really noticiable here in the states, and I'm hoping it will continue to snowball.

After the UK, I've done a bit of research on the satellite TV channels in France and found out that 13 of them are using .tv domains for their main websites.

Even though that's far fewer than in the UK, you have to keep in mind that there are actually fewer satellite TV channels in France than in the UK. The good news is that those 13 TV channels are actually pretty popular in France, which means that they reach quite a lot of viewers, which is all good for .tv awareness. :tu:

Michael

Sadly, this is an EXCELLENT report. Such detail and a real boost for anyone who was wavering after the ICANN malarkey this past week!

I say sadly because it now means I'm even more inspired to purchase the next set of .Tv names that I'd been building up as 'possible buyers'.

I don't know whether to thank you or send you the bill!

bIG thanks and thumbs up for the effort you've put in.

Nuts TV has an interesting story behind it ......About a year ago I got approached for NUTSTV.COM. The same day I got approached, NUTS.TV got snapped up

After some lengthy negotiation, we agreed on 7.5k for the name. I knew it was for the NUTS TV ezine, but felt that the name ,meant nothing to anyone else so I sold for 7.5k hsving lsid out 5.99 for the name less than a year earlier

Here is the good news - they have gone with NUTS.TV and tucked NUTSTV.COM in bed.....so - no buying nuts.tv for protection - its the other way round - they went for the .tv extension....i believe this trend will only increase with the .coms providing protection but no more than that....I have stopped buying tv.com a couple of months back......

there is still money to be made by companies looking to protect their .tvs, but the real money I feel in 2009 will swing heavily to .tv vs tv.com

Thanks for sharing this intersting story behind NUTS.TV. It's great to learn about this very nice sale of yours, especially as we're actually talking about a huge corporate enduser here, as NUTS.TV is owned by Turner Broadcasting.

I definitely agree with you when you say that more and more tv channels see tv.com domains as ways of protecting their .tv domains. It seems obvious to me that a solid .tv domain (like Nuts.TV) is so much better, more brandable and easier to promote than nutstv.com. However it could indeed be useful to own the tv.com to protect the .tv and to avoid possible lost traffic.

But there's still something I can't understand in this specific case. So Turner Broadcasting have spent 7.5K to purchase nutstv.com. They still own it now but it doesn't resolve. Why don't they redirect it to NUTS.TV ? Redirecting one domain to another isn't exactly complicated to do and it would probably bring them a bit of additional traffic to their website... Strange really...

 "Thanks" is more than enough, you can keep the bill. ;)

Seriously, I don't think .tv domainers should panick because of that ICANN stuff.
All the actual FACTS are showing that .tv is moving in the right direction and is growing fast as a very meaningful extension : increasing corporate enduser adoption, increasing awareness, strong growth in development, use and search volume, great prospects for the years to come as the convergence between TV and the Internet is just around the corner. :)

Be careful about choosing the right names, not overextending yourself and developing if you can, and I'm pretty sure you'll do fine. :)

Today I've been looking at the satellite TV channels in Germany.

As you know, ccTLDs are very strong in Europe, so I wasn't surprised to find out that most German channels were using .de domains for their main websites (just like it was the case for British channel on .co.uk domains or French ones on .fr domains).

But still I was pleasantly surprised to find out that 19 German satellite TV channels are using .tv domains for their main websites, which is pretty good. :)

Good point smash....

Michael about nutstv.com - I dont think its about redirecting any lost traffic - its about anihilating the tv.com - 7,.5 k to find the largest dustbin.....

and then you have those who say that vegas.com brought las.tv to stick it in their pocket to avoid any sort of competition to their .com.........ted turner just burnt the pocket and the jacket ..........

I stress once again, and i have a fair portfolio of tv.coms - I like ballstv.com and ladstv.com especially, but I will not be buying anymore tv.com - all the big boys who have been kind enough to give me of their time have said .tv.tv.tv

Me myself, Smash , Jimbo, Michaeldot Com? and others with sizeable tv.com portfolios - enjoy the hedge, but enjoy even more the smell of cleancut grass that the gardener has spelt out on the lawn- dot tv

The .tv extension is pretty successful in Italy, as we could already notice in the thread ".tv is taking the world by storm" with plenty of nice .tv video sites and Internet-only channels there.

So I'm not surprised to see that 26 Italian satellite TV channels are actually using .tv domains for their websites, including RAI, the big public service broadcaster. The adoption of .tv by such a huge organization does wonders to the .tv awareness in this country. :tu:
