I am going on vacation soon to a very rustic area in Canada where there are no phone lines, running water or much of anything. It is a fly-in fishing trip where we are dropped off in the middle of nature and picked up a week later.

I really can't go without internet while I am gone as I have too much going on, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me?

Has anyone used satellite internet and do you think it would be possible to utilize this up there? I haven't used it before and not even for sure if it would work up there, but I see no reason why it shouldn't? Could anyone recommend me any satellite internet companies to use up there? I will only need it for about 10 days, so I just want something that will work and give me access.

Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated, I have to figure out something soon!

however...just food for thought; even with a satellite phone, laptop and some form of uplink, you'll need one hell of an extension cord to be online for more than a few. ...unless you utilize half the capacity of the aircraft for the duracell bunny and his family...

Thanks for the link, I will definitely check it out! I have worked out a rig, so that I can get power from the solar cell they have there, so power should not be in issue, just finding a reliable alternative to getting on the internet is what I am after. I have never accessed the internet while on travels here before, so I am unsure of what will work and what will not. Ant feedback is appreciated and thanks again for your comments.

Oh god no! I use hughes because they're the only ones that provide broadband where I am. If there was any other service, I'd be using them instead. I hate this company, they're incredibly unreliable, tech support sucks, and everything about them is just wrong.

I understand the business need to be on the internet daily, but your vacation will be so much cooler if you left that computer home

That is true, I will admit to that. From what I have gathered anyway, it doesn't look there is a viable option, one place told me it would $3,000 and I would have to get it for a month, when I will only need it for a week.

I agree with the posters above though, it would be better if I left it at home and just relax and enjoy a nice vacation, without the internet. Unless the SouthPark episode about the internet comes true, it will still be here when I return. I just hope that I don't have too many disgruntled customers.
:-/

Thanks for all the feedback, it is much appreciated!

There is NO cell service or towers within reach of where I will be traveling. Cell phones do not work at all up here. I am 200+ miles away from any cell tower, so cellular service is not an option at all.
