I belong to a couple other domainer forums and a few people are down on .tv and more so maybe more sour grapes by the way the registry is run refering to selling premium domains at premium prices.

Also a couple have mentioned the ability of the registry to after your first two yaer of reg to raise registration prices on you based on the popularity of the domain. I find this hard to believe and cannat see it in the TOS anywhere. Can someone help me out on this as I am ready to renew a couple for the 10 year max to lock in my registration fee.

Cheers!

WG -
There has been allot of COMMIE talk about this, and if you search the forum you'll see that it has been raised by a number of members. EQ - Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no way for the registry to raise the renewal fees as some detractors have intimated. What you register is what you pay - UNLESS you let it drop. At that point the registry can reclaim it (as there is no backorder/drop monitoring) and re-release it at what ever price point they want.

Hey , if I am stupid enough to let it drop I would sorta understand that the registry can offer it at a higher price if it is a premium name and that makes sense.

Thanks.

I thought they were allowed to increase by a rather average %.... I recall we talked about this before in here somewhere.

1. I have had multiple discussions with dot-TV about this. They consistently claim that they will not change fees unless you drop. There are also examples of super-premium names that were negotiated years ago to low fees and stayed that way.

2. Their TOS seem to vaguely prohibit against making this type of change but like all TOS are "subject to change" so that, in and of itself, does not do much

3. I was very concerned about this previously but I have come to the conclusion that unless they are completely suicidal and decided to destroy the extension, they will not do this. The backlash would be massive and nobody in their right mind would every register a dot-tv name again. To date, I have not been able to identify any example where this has happened.

4. Additionally, when you register non-premium names with another registrar, it seems to me that it adds another layer of protection. What are they going to do? Start randomly yanking away *currently registrered* names from other registrars

5. If you are betting your whole dev. resources on one, non-premium, dot-tv, then go ahead and reg for 10 years. If you hold a large portfolio or premium names, I doubt the risk is high enough to be worth the capital investment. Use the $ for development instead.

Exactly Right what everyone else has said I have spoken not only to dot tv but Verisign, THey will not raise the prices if you are just renewing the name. WG you have less to worry about you regged a non premium which THEY could care less about and you did not reg it at www.tv so they have no way of even raising it. On the other two forums that matterin the domains space there is very little interestor knowledge about .tv. ITs funny when I go to DNF in chat one of the mods and I always joke saying .tv sucks, He has a couple good ones and we always get people saying do you think .tv sucks ? Yeah hahaha. Let everyone think that that is why people here have been able to reg some great names and good domains are still available
