Registrar disabled my account

Hello,

A directi reseller disabled my account without any notice or warning at all because of incorrect personal data.

When I created my account, instead first name and last name I had put the name of my website.

There is only one domain in that account. They didn't delete the domain. They just blocked me from accessing my account. The domain is registered until jun 08. Whois info is the same as it was before.

I bought that domain from another domainer and he pushed it to me. So it is not like a case where payment info matters because there was never a payment.

They didn't even bother to inform me. I noticed when I couldn't login. After trying the "forgot password" route I gave them a call and they say they said account is gone and domain will unaccessable.

Can I report them to icann or can I can recover the domain from directi? The domain is fine but I have no control over it.

Any ideas?

You broke TOS...why didn't you use correct whois information instead?

You can't report this as you are the one violating a contract. This was your own doing.

If you are having a problem with a non-cooperating reseller try to resolve the matter through the upstream registrar directly (directi), they could possibly move the domain to them or another reseller.
Unlike registrars resellers are not bound by icann rules.

If your email is entered as the Administrative Contact then just transfer it to another registrar if you want to control it/renew it before it expires. If you initiate a transfer the gaining registrar will send an email to the Administrative Contact email on the domain.

You can't go breaking TOS and using incorrect whois information and expect nothing to come out of it. Why not just use your real information when creating your account? If you don't want people to see your name, register a business.

He will probably need the EPP code and if he can't login he won't be able to get it.

Just a note how recently did you buy this domain and who did you buy it from?

If you do not want the info to be public please pm me the info and I will ensure it is not passed on without your permission to anyone else.

The reason I ask is that I am ensuring it is not the same thing that has happened to others recently.

Hello Peter,

I have bought it at a foreign auction website on Aug 07. For a few months the domain was fine in my account. The domain itself was worthless. I paid 9 USD for it. I'm pretty sure it is not the same thing.

Cheers

What options has the reseller given you, if any?

I called the reseller a few times and they told me if I had written a first name and last name then providing an id copy with those names on it would unlcok the account. But because I have written a web address there was no way to enable the account again. They also said they have changed my password and the domain will remain unaccessable.

If there was any warning I would still not use correct personal information. I'm not giving personal data away so easily. 2 years ago somebody took all money from my bank account. They did it in such a way we couldn't even understand how it was done. All money in my savings account was gone and it showed being spend on an online betting website. I live in the UK and the banks operate pretty good here but since then I'm even more careful.

If I had a chance I would unlock the domain and get the EPP code. Then move elsewhere. I think I will give a call to directi's UK office and see what happens.

It doesn't matter where you go, this is an ICANN policy. You must provide accurate information. You always have the option of getting Whois protection or as someone stated, registering a business name. However, barring those choices, it's your responsibility to make sure that your Whois info is accurate.
