Where is the cheapest and most reliable place to register domain names? And what is the next step to the process of selling it?

I find the cheapest place is Godaddy most of the time as you can search here on namepros for coupons that save you lots of money etc.

Next step would actually need to be your first step...so some research here on namepros and on the net....The time you spend reading and learning before regging names is truly invaluable!!

Welcome and enjoy namepros ;)

If you're thinking of becoming a reseller..then resellerclub.com, godaddy & name.com in the order of preference

If you wish to become a direct customer....check out answerable.com

If you do domaining, you cannot avoid to have a GoDaddy account, since many people expect you to have one (if only for buying names from a number of people on forums such as this one).

But for consolidating your portfolio, I would advise Dynadot. Very pleasant and light interface (a refreshing contrast compared to GoDaddy!). And the prices are right, provided you are willing to prepay $ 500 from the start, in order to take advantage of lower prices.

Completely agree. I would recommend Dynadot.

You'll want to get accounts at all the main registrars, and to the ones above I would include Namecheap.com and Domainsite.com. Most of them have sales or coupon specials, but Domain site only charges $7.88 for the first year of a basic registration and then $8.88 a year after than. Some people transfer domains around, like they open new credit cards and transfer their balance to keep getting 0% interest. :)

But if you are too focused on "cheap" you may get trapped by some offers out there. I once got a hosting account that included a "free" domain. Later they wanted $60 when I wanted to transfer it. Since they never TOLD me about that condition, I was able to get the domain after all. But it took about 30 emails and I don't know how much time...!!! The domain name? Oh, it was DomainIncubation.com... :)
