I was thinking tonight, that if I registered a popular show on primetime as a .tv, I could ring up the network and sell it to them at a good price. (e.g. thesimpsons.tv). I found a television show, who's .tv extension is available. Now, is it legal that I register it and sell it to them?

No, it's not. Doing that is what is called Cybersquatting.

In essence registering a domain with a TM infringement and then trying to sell it to the TM holders is not a good idea. At the very best they will probably demand you hand over the domain free, and the worst they will forcibly take the domain via courts which is going to cost you.

It's advisable you don't register it, it's even more so that you don't approach a company such as FOX or others to sell the domain.

Maybe you should reg it and then develop it into a small fan site. Then Later on sell it for a profit.
