Last year I inherited the administration of a number of domains at the infamous register.con. Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid this outrageous $200 transfer con?! :yell:

Do the new ICANN rules address transfer fees like this that virtually prohibit registrants from moving domain names to another registrar?

A few names expiring and I refuse to renew through this registrar. If there is a way to get by this con, help appreciated. Thanks.

D-: And then the follow-up support to "complete" my order! D-:

Dear Mr. / Ms {name deleted, but note the personal touch (Mr./Ms)!}

It was a pleasure speaking to you today.

All Register.com customers must indicate that they have read,
understood and agree to be bound by Register.com's Services Agreement,
located at http: // www. register.com/service-agreement.cgi.

In order to renew a domain name through Register.com, you must
affirmatively indicate that you have read, understood, and agree to be
bound by all terms and conditions of Register.com Services Agreement,
as well as any additional rules or policies that are or may be
published by Register.com from time to time. If you do not agree to be
bound by such terms and conditions, you will not be able to register a
domain name through Register.com.

As discussed we will be calling you back to complete your order after
you have had a chance to review this information.

We look forward to speaking with you then.

Sincerely,
Customer Support

Just received confirmation that the domain name has been transferred. No notice from registrar . com but no problem for me about that. Kudos to the registrar for coming through on this. Hopefully I won't be finding any $200 transfer fees in my account anywhere! :tri:

Get the rest of them out of there proff and then just ditch that account - no need to put yourself through the same hassle over and over.

One more on the way for now. A few others have another year on them. The last one, unfortunately, is a .ws and cannot be transferred.
