I have a few domains at Register.com (won them at Snapnames), and now I want to transfer them to another registrar.

But of course, its Register.com, so a simple task as transferring a domain can't ever be so easy. I head over to the site only to learn that you have to call them up to get the transfer auth. codes.

Great.

I live in India. My phone doesn't have international calling facility. That means to call them, I'll have to first get international calling activated on my phone (or go to one of those pay phones), just to get a stupid authorization code.

Which registrar does that? Here I am, trying to be a good domainer and consolidating my entire portfolio in one place, and here are great registrars like the aforementioned Register.com.

Guys, don't ever use them...ever.

Sorry to hear that....they suck. They will also hard sell you on the phone to keep the domains at Register.com.

If you do have to keep some domains there for some reason, be sure to ask for a discount b/c they will give it to you. Tell them you are thinking of staying with them and want to know the best price they can give you. I had to do this several times when I was too close the the renewal date to do a transfer.

Long ago, I transferred my domains out of Register.com ... pretty straightforward at the time, and its unfortunate that they are now making you call them for the codes, etc. Remember, though, Register.com is not a "domainer" registrar ... they are "retail", so it's more than likely they have lost a lot of domainer :$: business over the years and are thus making things more difficult to easily transfer out, IMHO.
I mean, heck, they still don't even have fair pricing, or the access for "free pushes"! :guilty: :td:

Good Luck with your stuffs, sashas!

Yep, that's a pretty bad policy.

A month ago I sent to Register.com support a e-mail, which is rather rigid form required to give me the codes, because once I call them and when they can take my call, I'm just at night. They gave me codes without protest.

I got the EPP codes from them by mail too.
No way I'm wasting my time on the line with them :hehe:

Just curious, Kate: do you tell them like you can't call due to whatever, then
they email you the codes? Or what maybe extra measures or so do you have
to go through before they finally send them?
