I have a domain i am watching that just expired and it now says its in redemption period Do you guys know how long that period is and then how long until it deletes? Who is partnered with Register.com to catch drops? Pool or Snapnames? I want to do the most possible to catch it and be in on the auction then.
Any advice?

Were you lucky to get the name?
Because I checked, and it has been renewed till 2015.

@ loscocco
Snapnames is the partner of Register.com and they will grab the domain.

@ nastyrunner
He didn't mention the domain and I wonder how you said it has been renewed till 2015.

As far as I know if the domain is already in Pending Delete phase then anyone of the drops companies may grab it.

Register.com passes the domains to snapnames to auction off so in the case shown above snap will get first shot of it if it is not renewed and there is a backorder on it ....so get your order in at snap.

ps - sometimes register.com keeps them for another year if nobody has a backorder on them so don't wait for it to drop if you really want it.

Correct. If the domain drops it's a free for all. No registrar has an edge.

That's the way it's supposed to happen, but it's not the way it REALLY happens.

At least for premium names.

I have put in GoDaddy backorders for names that never even dropped, but were, in fact, "renewed" by registrars and handed over to "partner" auction houses.

Most of the time the registrars will actually renew expired names so the owner benefits from a grace period... During this time the registrar can also send the name to auctions.
At this point the name is available only from the registrar or through their drop partner (for example Snapnames for register.com).
If the name is not sold during that period the registrar can still cancel the renewal within 45 days and abandon the name...
Then the domain will enter redemption status, then pending delete and it drops.
A prerelease domain won't drop and retain its creation date.
