Hey, yesterday i posted a message looking for a poker site i received an offer on a website which i really liked i thought it had alot of potential and jumped on the opptunity i sent the $300 to the guy so he would send the files and domain then i would send the rest of the payment.
I was on msn too him he seemed to be pretty nice but after i sent payment he immediately signed off and i never heard from him again, im guessing he will get the money out of paypal ASAP so i cant recover it.
Is there any way i can put a hold on the payment so he cannot do this?
Should i contact paypal or just file a claim?
Any other suggestions are muchly appreciated.

Morgan

The time elapse is not so long, but if you are sure about this being a problem, then you should contact paypal/contact namepros admin/check whois for the owner of the domain name/

I agree with yoshiwara, bit too early to start considering a complaint

I have done alot of dealings on the net and my feeling seems to think its a scam, i have since looked into all the details and found that the name he was using on whois is different, and his paypal adress is verified.

Demand this person contact you within 24 hours or you will file a claim with paypal.

Paypal usually get lost money back.

Yes, PayPal is mostly on the buyer's side.

I had a similar event happen to me involving a guy over Paypal and customizations of a design. He signed off and I asked him repeatedly to send me the files and it was never done. I then simply filed a Paypal complaint and he never responded and I got the money back in the period (I think it's 10 days). Personally, I'd file a complaint and contact Paypal that way you can already get this on the record. Present your evidence, this does sound very suspicious.

Yeah i have filed a complaint but im frightened he will take the payment out into his bank account and ill never see it again, as his account is unverified and without any feedback at all.
I have heard people say that paypal will not get my money back if he withdraws it too his local bank.

I heard people say that PayPal could reverse their bank withdrawals... only whoever I heard that from said it happened for the wrong reasons. So don't worry, they should be capable of getting your money.

I'm pretty sure Paypal is more than capable of getting money from whatever is tied to the account if they must.

You have to still worry about the "Tangible Goods" rule as well with Paypal. I have heard a few positive responses as of late , but they still throw this in the face of domain buyers a lot. Where was this deal actually made ? - I've seen this thread in at least one other domain forum I believe. - Not asking for actual links or anything - just wondering if it was a transaction arranged on one of the forums or in private.

lets look at it on another point of view... Maybe he lost internet connection? Maybe his internet connection was shut down? You never no about these things.. Give it a couple days then contact paypal..

Unfortunately a couple of things can happen:
1) The seller could remove the money from his paypal account by withdrawing to his bank (If you waited a couple of days) and then remove his bank from his paypal account, and withdraw the money from his bank. PayPal can try all day to get it back, but it would come back NSF depending on how he had it set up.
2) Or if the money just gets "paid forward" (Used to buy something from someone else... who uses it to buy something from someone else, etc.) it complicates thing.
3) Then as Mark alluded to, the "non-tangible" out for PP has not been as bad recently (As PayPal is being used for more and more online services), but still exists.

The one big thing on your side: PayPal screws sellers all the time; Buyers are what make the business work for PP.

File the complaint now, remove it if it is resolved.

I have dealt with a similar problem before. Paypal should be able to freeze his account and then the transaction can be worked out. If the seller does any volume on paypal, it will be more hassle for him and he with either transfer you the domain or give you a refund. In my experence, Paypal is good about over-reacting to situations. However, Paypal is awful when it comes to giving you someone you can actually speak to (either over the telephone or email) who is knowlegable about your problem.

When I had a complaint with Paypal, I got emails from about five different people inside Paypal. Most of the emails we cookie-cutter standard emails that didn't even address the problem I had. However, in the end, everything got straightened out and I got my money back.

Best of luck!

BTW, have you checked whois info on the domain name. Does the guy even own the domain he says he does? If he doesn't have privacy on his domain, you will be able to get his contact info.

is he a verified seller at PayPal? if so, you could get your money back easily than the unverified account.

I pmed shawn to ask for the guys IP adress although he is not able to give me it for privacy reasons even though this guy is just stealing peoples money.
So im at abit of a loss i cant really do anything too re coupe my money its kinda sad that this can happen and there is nothing you can do.

Be patient with paypal, they are a little slow in the heads to get things. Just keep restating what needs to happen: (ie JoeSchmoe stole my $. I paid him to his paypal account. His account must be frozen while Paypal investigates the matter. etc., etc.)

Hang in there.

I bought some intangibles online from some pud (actually who was really the pud in this situation?) who did not deliver and then contacted paypal about a week later. They got me every dime from the guy that they could. No hassle at all.
