Recent change to us - m.google.com and Google is a "backer"?

-dotMobi is backed by leading mobile operators, network and device manufacturers, and Internet content providers, including Ericsson, Google, GSM Association, Hutchison 3, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, TIM, Vodafone (and now Visa). dotMobi is also a sponsor of W3C's Mobile Web Initiative.

..all this "above the table"

Recent change to us - m.google.com and Google is a "backer"?

Is there an anti anti-trust movement?

(For important security reasons, I will preface this thread for responders with my business security movement network seal / CIA notary https://www.cia.gov/cgi-bin/comment_form.cgi - new site design  )

Kind Regards,

Yelo

The fundamental difference here -- Company A does not go around using the fact that they bought Company B as their only marketing scheme (I believe scheme is the proper word to discribe this sin).
Wo Reece... take a few antioxidants :)

1) .mobi doesn't stand or fall based on mtld's marketing efforts; any marketing they do is bonus.

2) which other tld got to even say they had big backers, in any sense?

3) Edelman - Cobo can explain this better than me

4) All in due time - timing is critical, as is a critical mass of content.

5) The mobile scene is a complex web of large players all jostling for the biggest rev share they can without stepping on potential partners' toes. No company wants to tip their hand until the right time. It's all about partnerships and walled gardens... some would benefit greatly from these coming down, but others would take a big hit - .mobi is caught in the middle of that.

6) Mobile internet is in its infancy in terms of use here in North America, as is mobilization of content.

7) If .mobi takes off as big as it might, then we may be at the verge of a mobile revolution - creating a much bigger stakes than our thousands of regs.

8) mtld is still trying to figure its rollout of premium and reserved names - maybe it's about $$ but it may also be in our best interests if they take the time to do this right, and involve the right end-users, not just domainers. But at the end of the day they still have a significant holding of name capital to be doled out and if done correctly lead to tremendous marketing value.

9) mtld is dealing with a lot of resistance, from proponents of 1-internet, those who espouse other standards or browsers, etc.

10) mtld, is the first to impose coding standards/restrictions, which is controversial in its own right, but also a key part of their marketing strategy, that is subject to evolve, and tech is rapidly being developed as we speak.

Did I miss anything?

Oh yah...

11) All in due time!

Cheers.

There is no due diligence involved... If Google gives me an Xmas present for getting them alot of money through Adwords, would I characterize that as an investment in me, my brand, my company? Of course not! That seems to be what mtld is pulling here. As has been said in the past -- 1 or 2 million from Visa is a drop in the bucket. The same can be said for most of their backers. I'm 100% sure that Bill Gates donated more to fund AIDS research in Manitoba than he, or all of Microsoft, have to .mobi. Point being -- where the hell is Manitoba? Well, he threw 20m+ my province's way about 2 years ago.
Congratulations on your Xmas gift from Google but I don't see how it relates.

I've dealt with corporate sponsors of events and they examine the event organization pretty thoroughly prior to formalizing the relationship. Sure it helps if the event is run by someone who knows the sponsor but I have no knowledge that is the case with mTLD and VISA. Even if it was, VISA is not going to soil it's reputation by knowingly and publicly sponsoring something they believe to be a fraud. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Nice points mobidick. Remember all, Rome wasn't built in a day! So like it or not, the citizens just had to wait untill the time was right before they could move in. But when it was complete... :)

Who said that?:notme: Rather, I think that mTLD's marketing, apparent lack of direction or at the least their unwillingness to provide guidance(other than the more that useful advise to develop, develop, develop) is what is being questioned.

Yes, there's a very large difference between being a fraud, and overexaggerating the nature of the investments of other corporations. When I speak of them as misleading us, I'm not referring to something of the Bre-X nature, rather, something along the lines of Sony's "I'll pay you $10,000 if you can find a retail store that has any PS3s in stock", which turned into an utter joke, when the magazine found loads of them.

What guidance are you looking for? And BTW, their commitment to providing info and resources to developers is stellar and is exactly what they needed to do.

What over-exaggeration do you feel they have made and why does it roil you so?
