HelloMetro.com Adds Additional Cities to Remain World’s Largest dotMobi (.mobi) Network with 1,400 Local Mobile Sites

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HelloMetro.com, one of the world's most-extensive providers of city-oriented web sites, has now added more than 750 .mobi web sites to its growing list of local search web sites to remain the world’s largest network of .mobi sites. By using HelloMetro’s .mobi site, residents in 1,400 cities around the world can access valuable local information such as news, weather, sports scores and attractions as well as searchable Yellow Pages & White Pages directories directly from their mobile phone.

.mobi sites are designed for the screen size and download speed of mobile phones – including the Apple iPhone – so that users can access HelloMetro sites on the go without needing a computer. The internet addresses for HelloMetro's .mobi sites are the same as their .com counterparts, except that they end in .mobi. For example, HelloColumbus.com's mobile equivalent is HelloColumbus.mobi while HelloJacksonville.com's is HelloJacksonville.mobi.

The HelloMetro .mobi network also includes larger city web sites like HelloChicago.mobi, HelloSeattle.mobi, HelloDenver.mobi, HelloAtlanta.mobi and HelloLosAngeles.mobi.

"We've received great feedback from users who regularly access the HelloMetro.com web sites and are looking for the same information while on the go. We launched only three months ago and already we're getting 150,000 .mobi page views monthly," said Clark Scott, President and CEO, HelloMetro.com.

"Seeing HelloMetro expand its .mobi offerings to complement the full range of its .com sites is exciting. It proves that there is a growing demand for useful, local mobile content," said Trey Harvin, CEO of dotMobi, the company behind the .mobi domain.

A listing of all 1,400 HelloMetro.com websites can be found at www.HelloMetro.com. For individual city web sites, type “Hello” plus “City Name” plus ".com" or ".mobi" (for example, http://www.HelloNewYork.com or http://HelloNewYork.mobi).

About HelloMetro.com

As we have said for five years now, the future of the Internet is “Local.” HelloMetro.com offers users the opportunity to get to know a city through local history, attractions, real estate, jobs, Yellow Pages, local resources and other partner sites that provide the most complete and up-to-date information in their particular subject areas. Unlike cluttered city portals that blast online audiences with irrelevant advertising information, HelloMetro.com uniquely dedicates each city site to the flavor of the individual location.

The company currently operates 1,400 locally-oriented city information web sites worldwide, such as HelloSeattle.com, HelloMiami.com, HelloLouisville.com , HelloNewYork.com , HelloSanFrancisco.com, HelloTokyo.com, HelloParis.com).

HelloMetro.com regularly ranks in the top three city searches with competitors including CitySearch.com, YellowPages.com, Google.com (Local Search) and Microsoft’s new Local.Live.com.

Yes, that would be interesting to know. Is there any other reason that hello.mobi would have been placed as a premium in the first round?

Very interesting Jeff.. :) Maybe hello.com and HelloMetro.com were duking it out? I think I saw a post here on Namepros about the winner asking what to do with it, so I'm guessing neither of them won it in the end.

I've never heard of this one yet they're probably the most prolific developer of .mobi sites out there.... goes to show!
funny enough I liked the idea of branding geo's like this so you could reg city names that had otherwise gone like knowKansas KnowNewYork etc... (as an example) but I didn't get carried away - I regged about 40 or so with the same prefix.... but 1,400 makes me look like the rank amateur that I am ;)

Great post, thanks for that.... I feel more reassured everyday!

HelloMetro 1400 .mobis

Thanks for all the positive post here.

Our traffic continues to climb on the .mobi domains. Probably on a run rate of 250,000 page views a month. Still low I know but the growth chart is great.

We are still trying different channels to promote them. Google, Decktrade etc.

If we can just get the word out to our 2 million .com visitors, I think we will do well.

I think one thing going for us on the mobile sites is that all our Local information really works well for mobile. When people are on the run, they want to know local stuff like: restaurants, Yellow Pages lookups, Weather, Movie times,Flight info etc.

We will be adding more features each month to keep the site interesting.

I think we are all rooting for your endeavor to succeed, for partially selfish reasons, but I think you have a great concept and have beaten yellow pages and others to punch with your sites. good luck

Question for HelloMetro CEO: Clark Scott

On behalf of any potential business owners that frequent this forum (That may be wondering if and why they need to secure their companyname.mobi) or for New Investors of the .Mobi Extension...

Why HelloMetro opted to Invest 1400 "HelloGeo" Names into .Mobi versus going the .Com Auto Detection or the m.hellocity.com or mobile.hellocity.com Route?

Was there any Extensive Decision Made before your Investment into .Mobi?

HelloMetro 1400 .mobis

There were a couple of reasons why we went with .mobi.
First, it was a gamble. It is still a gamble to buy all these .mobi domains but I believe it will pay off.
The auto detection is not 100%. There are so many handsets out there and mobile browsers.
The sub-domains are cheezy and hard to remember.
Since we were able to get a head start on many other large city guides and yellow page companies, we are doing well. My hope is that we beat them to the punch and people will be use to using our mobile sites vs the others.
