I think this business model will be dead once .mobi hits the ground running. Why send a text and wait for a reply when you can simply go to the .mobi site on the spot.

I agree - user gets control / instant gratification - with graphics - that's the future :td:.

Also, it is my understanding that these short codes are quite expensive - hundreds or thousands per campaign - and also dependent on carriers' approval - if I am not mistaken? And specific to country - ie. may work in US, but not in Canada, and visa versa.

I'm not sure on the geographic differences but you are right the short codes cost a bundle. Last I checked it was $500/mo for a generic and $1,000/mo for a vanity code. Plus it is paid for 3, 6 or 12 months in advance.

In the case of the product offered in the OP, the company uses the same code for everyone.

Apparently, you have to submit an application outlining how you intend to use the short code, and it may get rejected by a carrier who feels it will put too much stress on their services at a given time... probably doesn't apply to OP case though.

If this service generates leads from those without data plans it probably brings in ROI that pays for itself, but I'd also invest in a nice short memorable .mobi for the future, if I were them. :tu:

You dont have to wait for a response, you text the # on the sign and the property info hits your cell phone in seconds. Free to the public and most agents have deals with their brokers for this service. Sorry guys, but no .mobi or .com or . anything needed for this. This is one number you text to get info on any property in the U.S.

As I said before,

79274.mobi is for sale by yours truley :hi: :hehe: :)

You are completely off the mark. SMS is text, I want more. That's what websites deliver and I can trust a .mobi to do it right for my phone. I'm sorry, I just can't believe we keep having this dance about the purpose and point of .mobi.

Keep blowing your .mobi horns all you want, all I said was no website period is needed for this service. Anyone can set up a website and have all the MLS listings on their site with search. One such Prugg.mobi site with listings in only houston TX doesnt impress me either.

Fact of the matter is, there are thousands of agents/brokers useing 79274 text on their signs for advertising. Its the google of mobile real estate and a brilliant idea by cellsigns.com Wish I had thought of it.

Agree. :gl:

CellSigns enables home buyers to receive property information via text messaging. Buyers send a text message to CellSigns from the comfort of their cars or while standing in front of the home for sale. Within seconds, they receive a reply including property information and the agent's contact information. When interested, the buyer can request a callback from the agent, a property brochure via email, or schedule a showing instantly via text messaging. The agent receives qualified leads and closes more sales, more profitably. Never create and print another flyer or fill (and refill) a brochure box again.

This is entirely designed for and conducive for those who are "On The Go", IMHO. :talk:
If further information is needed - while NOT "On The Fly" - one can request a full color brochure / photos / virtual tour / full agent .COM website / agent request by email to view later in the comfort of their homes ... at a time more convenient. I believe we have to keep in mind ... when one is in a car and/or standing in front of a property it is very likely while also doing other things, plans for the day/night, kid's soccer games, grocery shopping, visiting Grandma, dinner, etc. The experience of potentially purchasing a home is far more educational and enjoyable to preview interested properties while on the larger PC and at their leisure and convenience, in my view. In this regard, the purpose and point of an .MOBI is irrelevant in this context, IMHO.

Just my two sense.

79274 is the # you text into your cell phone ( see cellsigns.com) then type in the property I.D for buyers to get the listing info on the property.

Trend and MLS have teamed up with

Not all brokers use this service yet as its relatively new. It is up to the individual agent to decide if they wish to market in this way. Me being fresh out of real estate school will certainly be useing these signs as its a great way to market your listings and allow potential buyers to get the information they need on a property asap on a drive by and if they dont already have an agent you will likely get a double commission depending on what state your in as dual agency is illegal in a few states. But legal here in P.a :)

Like I said, wish I had thought of it. Really is a brilliant idea and cellsigns has got to be making a bundle.

Righto, the Mobile Web is coming ... but I'd like to ask, if possible, the O.P.'s father, the actual Realtorโ„ข, if he uses the Mobile Listing / CellSign service(s), IHHO? :gl: :talk:

Thanks again for the post, very informative.
